No, most certainly not, but we seem to lack a strong intellectual, debating, conservative core group as opposed to the liberal core group.

I don't really venture out far into General as a rule (although that is a stance I am changing) but the only con that doesn't run away or start screaming about the Bible two posts in is yourself.

I could name a few others.

Also, part of the problem is that although we have tons of far-rightists, we have relatively few center-rightists. So you'll often see "TAXES ARE THEFT " more than "lower taxation is beneficial because a, b, c" to give a rough example.
I support peace in Israel and Palestine. The governments and people in power on all sides are an absolute disgrace, and their unwillingness to pursue peace is a disservice to the people they are meant to be serving. The status quo is not simply untenable; it is unquestionably unacceptable.

McCain would be the one we want less of. Since Regnum said there was too much "taxes are THEFT!" going on, you can easily arrive at a rational conclusion based on these facts.

McCain is "taxes are theft", Paul is "low taxes are beneficial".

Honestly, if we can get more sane, intelligent, and rational right-leaning posters like you on NSG, it'd be a better place to debate.

I agree wholeheartedly!

But, tell me, Caninope, why do you believe this is the case?

I've been wondering that myself.

My theory was once that NS's predominantly left-leaning population was an expression of America's own inevitable leftism...

Then I realized a large number of people on NS aren't even from America.

im not so sure. other than their divergent personalities, i would call it the other way. perhaps i am basing that on their supporters instead of the men themselves though. it is just that everyone i know who actually *likes* mccain is soft on taxes because you need revinue to bomb iran, and everyone i know who likes paul starts cleaning their guns (sometimes metaphorically) when economic policy is brought up.

Regardless, I seriously doubt NationStates can be used as an expression of America's increasing trend of progressivism, if such a thing even exists.

To be fair, according to voluntary self-reported polls done every few weeks, a vast majority of users are younger.

I mean, I'm not going to try to say that this is statistically valid (the fact that it was voluntary is a confounding factor), but younger people have been known to be more left-leaning in general.

Also, the vast majority of posters who are deemed to be "decent debaters" or similar on NS happen to be quite intelligent and well-read.

ask moderation about reading serious moderation candidates TGs without telling them about it until afterwards and/or apparently refusing to confirm/deny the exact timeline of TG reading ~~~ i hope you never sent any of the recent mods or the ones that got really close anything personal!

signature edit: confirmation has been received. they will explicitly do it before and without asking. they can look at TGs basically whenever they want so please keep this in mind when nominating people for moderator or TGing good posters/anyone!

I'm not really sure. I know that college graduates tend to have a higher proportion of leftists among them than those with some college or only high school, and perhaps that could play into NS and the lack of an intellectual core. Perhaps it's the loss of conservative public intellectuals without genuine replacements (with two very notable examples being Milton Friedman in 2006 and William Buckley Jr. in 2008), which would fit with what seems to be a rising anti-intellectual backlash within the current GOP. Perhaps its the fact that NSG tends to attract people of more extreme political beliefs, or maybe it's all three rolled into one. I don't know, but it genuinely bothers me when I literally have people that I should be agree with (and vice versa) calling me a liberal.
