Why do people REALLY hate the US Southerners?

I think you'll find very few people who legitimately hate the South. By saying "People in the US North hate us as well" you are taking it quite seriously. As well as making unfounded generalizations to boot.

This isn't an unfounded generalization. It's a reality. People think we're uneducated.

The hate generally comes from the fact that those people's most ardent supporters come from the South, not necessarily that all stupid people are from here.

The fact that historically the Southern People have been on the wrong side of nearly every single issue and even today by and large they tend to support the worst candidates with the worst policies tends to paint a negative picture of an area.

Hell, I'm about as Southern as you get, and I tend to hate the fact that this region tends to hold the country and its people back with its atrocious politics and social views.

California seems to hate everything about Arizona, until they have to come over here to buy groceries because the tax rate there is higher.

My mom(she's from California) say it's because of the kind of personality of people from Arizona, but IDK, I'll ask her again sometime.

This actually depends on where you look. We've also got some of the poorest regions, because yes this is a zoning issue on how much one pays in taxes by property.

Well during the Civil War, an Army major stationed in California tried to get Southern California to break off and join the Confederacy. He even managed to stage a march in Sacramento. He was quickly arrested afterwards.

That has nothing to do with hatred. Hatred and hate are two incredibly strong words that shouldn't be thrown around with abandon. Especially when it comes to people.

The south is a place full of a lot of pride and a lot of shame. We're far from perfect. I personally am proud to be Southern, but I recognize that complaints against the stereotypical culture of the south are not complaints against me personally.
The rough part is balancing still being slightly upset about Sherman's march to the sea and making up for the faults of our ancestors.

People from Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and to a minor degree São Paulo also tend to associate various socio-economic and cultural factors with people revealing their accent from other regions. Nothing unusual.

I'd imagine that's because, as a general rule, the Southern Accent is derived from Scottish vernacular.
