I think everyone in the U.S. loves fried chicken and that would only draw people to it.Except for vegetarians and vegans of course.

Well, it's won the argument.
It wasn't "Look how different we are! Get used to us making you uncomfortable!" that got people to stop being bigots.
it was
"You're gay? Well shit, i'd have never guessed. You aren't evil or anything. Huh. I guess now that I know you properly and it turns out your gay, I better re-evaluate my opinion."

No, it wasn't.

The Mattachine Society didn't do shit.

It wasn't until the drag queens and camp gays of Stonewall rioted in the streets that straight folks at large started to realize that there was a problem with gays being persecuted, and it wasn't until the federal government's silent complicity in the face of HIV/AIDS radicalized and militarized the gay community that we started seeing a serious push for full equality across the board. It's taken both flamboyant gays and heteronormative ones to get to where we are today.

Actually, fried chicken and watermelon were served regularly during civil rights get-togethers in the South, as they're traditional Southern food. The malt liquor was frowned upon, though.

The majority of society is now accepting.
It's the minority that are a problem.
With them, it's the perceived alien nature of homosexuality that is the problem.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Most importantly, make sure to tell any black people who enjoy hip-hop or wear clothing that could plausibly be called "gangsta" (say...hoodies) not to show up, because we wouldn't want to send the message that THAT kind of black person deserves equal rights just as much as black people who conform more to dominant white culture.

Considering I used to be prejudiced agaisnt trans people, i'm guessing it is how they think.
I used to think it was weird, and they must have some kind of disorder.
And then I met one who was perfectly normal. (Admittedly, it was my first time meeting any of them at all).
At that point I thought, maybe this thing isn't what I thought it was about, and decided to actually look it up.
If they had been acting like a complete stereotype, i would have thought "yeh, definately fucking crazy." or something.
Now, this was before I actually started analyzing my own behaviour properly and actually giving a shit about politics. But it's events like this that caused me to do so in the first place.
