Well, it's won the argument.
It wasn't "Look how different we are! Get used to us making you uncomfortable!" that got people to stop being bigots.
it was
"You're gay? Well shit, i'd have never guessed. You aren't evil or anything. Huh. I guess now that I know you properly and it turns out your gay, I better re-evaluate my opinion."

If there was a rally where black people ate kfc and watermelon and drank malt liquor every legitimate civil rights group would create as much distance as humanly possible.

Says the guy who's afraid of being killed for being bisexual? It wasn't "Look how different we are! Get used to us making you uncomfortable!" that got people to stop being bigots.
No, it was, "We're different, we act how we want. If you try to piss on us for it, we'll break your fucking nose."it was

No, that's not how homophobes think.

Why would it be weird if you never know?
Hell, why would it be weird at all?
Personally, I feel flattered when somebody checks me out, regardless of their sexuality.

Actually, fried chicken and watermelon were served regularly during civil rights get-togethers in the South, as they're traditional Southern food. The malt liquor was frowned upon, though.
