How is wearing a boa "not a good image"?

Because it's not heteronormative enough. How DARE we try to break a cycle of heternormativity!!!

If you actually supported equality, then you wouldn't need people to act a certain way or say something special to convince you. I'm a feminist, I don't fucking go around threatening women who behave in a way I don't like, "I might not be inclined to support your freedom if you continue to act this way...."

You have no fucking clue what supporting equality means. You're doing the opposite.

Convince me of what? I'm convinced. I'm a supporter of gay rights I also happen to be aware that the image being popularized by the gay rights movement is a pretty shitty one.

The heteronormative patriarchy isn't something that should be catered to. You're saying, "You should be worried about whether or not you can convince it to grant you rights." Fuck that. Once again, it took riots before they listened. Fuck pleading with an oppressor.

There is nothing shitty about the word "fabulous" or not acting like a fucking "proper" man/woman.

It's only a "poor image" because you want them to portray themselves how YOU want, and we are not here to pander to YOU, we are here to express ourselves, make ourselves comfortanle, make ourselves feel safe, and take pride in OURSELVES. That's fucking what gay culture is.

But it sure seems like it. Again, to the quote of 'We're here, we're queer, get use to it!,' why should the minority assimilate to the standards of the majority?

The reason why gay pride is so open about their sexuality is because centuries of prejudice and discrimination has forced them to hide who they are. They are taking back their identity by being open about themselves, feeling secure about their sexual lifestyle and not caring what people think. People think they are projecting a poor image if they do not understand the context in which gay pride occurs. Without it, many people are ignoring the reasoning behind these actions and will consider them projecting a 'poor image,' when, in fact, they are projecting a positive one, since they are showing their existence to society.

And the normative "person" is straight, cisgender, white male. That's the social default. That's what you're asking.

Consider that people will be making assumptions about you based on your dress and behavior and then dress and behave accordingly. We've already established the conduct shown at gay pride events just isn't how anybody actually acts.

Most of them don't act like that at any time other than pride parades.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Yes, lets all act and dress EXACTLY how we do in every day life during parades. Let's put some computers on a float, dress in business attire, and go to work, or play video games on a cheetos-stained couch, or do our studying on the parade. You are supposed to act EXACTLY like your normal self during parades, DUH.
We should also do this for holiday parades because how dare we exhibit something about our identity as part of X culture by being supportive of how we wish to show cheer during the holidays.

"When people think X this is what I want them to think."

That is the thought that should go through your head any time you present yourself in public.
