Indeed. Just because something doesn't appeal to me doesn't make it wrong. Being wrong makes it wrong.

I mean, seriously, dude, if someone made a game entitled "Nazi Power: Arbeit Macht Frei" in which the goal of the game was to brutally murder as many Jewish children as possible while yelling, "HEIL HITLER LOLOLOLOL" the problem with that game would not be "it's not to my personal taste." It would be "that is fucking horrible." (It would ALSO not be to my personal taste, obviously, seeing as I'm not fucking horrible.)

In the same way, my problem with misogyny in games is not "I don't personally enjoy it." There are lots of games I don't personally enjoy and in no way oppose - pretty much every football game bores me silly, for example. My problem with misogyny is that it's fucking horrible, and I'm sorry that I'm not going to waste my time crying for the poor, oppressed little sexists who just want to be able to see women as a collection of holes to stick a penis in without big ol' meanies like me telling them they're being douches.

I think we've found the inverse of the "there is no such thing as gray" NSG teen libertarian strikeforce. It's the "there's nothing but grey" NSG teen hipster brigade.

On one had everything is exactly as it seems and there's no room for advanced and complex thinking, gay pride parades and the holocaust are equally evil! On the other hand, nothing can be known, nothing matters, everything is subjective, how dare you say hitler was bad, that's just subjective!

And thus their bitter war surges ever onward, locked in the eternal struggle of polar opposites, and yet bound by one great similarity. The complete, total, and profound inability to discuss anything like a fucking adult.

I blame feminism and the breakdown of traditional gender roles, in a word. Progress. The idea that women should be protected (ie: they should not be attacked) and honoured has been discarded. Of course, you should also look at the damage done to men. In a way the treatment of men in video games is no better. Both with men as users, but also how male characters behave and are portrayed. If men in video games are hyper mascilinized, what are they saying about what men are suppose to do?

Sure Mario teaches men, that women are passive and that men need to save them, but it also teaches men that they should save women and that they have value. Much worse is the more forward thinking games that teach that people, especially women, exist to be used and that men are basically pigs. Of course the whole internet anonymity plus free speech brings out the whole, the meanest person is cool and insulting people makes you clever mentality.

Because in the Post-Modern society, everyone makes their own rules, and applauded for breaking the old ones, such crudity is bountiful.

Beyond that, it's a strict rule, nobody under 25. And anything that looks like anything that is considered "teenage" behavior (excessive swearing, rude behavior, antisocial use of chat channels) is an immediate removal.

It is one of the largest and most accomplished groups in the game.

And I can not fathom how anyone can argue that "teenagers are the core demographic" when a group that exclusively exists to allow adults to get AWAY from teenagers is one of the most successful groups in the game.

How is playing an MMO not going out in public? After a fashion of course.

Last time I checked, when I went out in public, I didn't go on a quest to gather power, slaughter demons, and make the world bend it's knee to me.

Of course, you can say, "but Aurora, you're still going about and talking with people!" But I really think "going about and talking with people" and "going out in public", are two different things.

I mean, by that logic, posting on NS is like going out in public. Perhaps in the loosest sense, but it's not really a good comparison.

Only MMO I've played in recent years was Phantasy Star Online. Though I did play WoW for like an hour before deciding I hated it utterly.

Dude, Phantasy Star Online is an amazing MMO. You're seriously complaining about that game?

And finally... perhaps that wouldn't be the first thing on their mind if the character was designed to look like an adventurer, not eye-candy.

The two are not mutually exclusive, you know that, right? Plenty of MMOs, and games in general, do a combination of both. Further more, it is the very fact that such things are on their mind in the first place, that many of these character designs are created. Taking away the character designs wouldn't take away the desire or mindset of those gamers.

Finally, there is nothing innately wrong with the character designs themselves. If you don't like the character customization of a particular MMO (a problem I find myself having often), play a different MMO. There are plenty of MMOs out there with vast amounts of character customization. Hell, creating characters is pretty much my favorite part of any highly customizable game, beyond even the actual gameplay. I can recommend a few to you if you like.

The game itself was amazing. The constant spam of "Wanna Cyber/fuck/[insert innuendo here]?" in the lobby whenever I was teamed up with someone using a female character model wasn't.

Of course they aren't. But at the same time, if that's the bulk of your options, your probably going to end up with that.

I myself enjoy Chivalry: Guerrilla Warfare, where I sit in a bush with a crossbow and murder anyone who comes by. Rinse and repeat until people start respawning to try to get revenge.

There's still a difference. The closest thing to going out in public that you can do is maybe do a video call on Skype. You're putting yourself out there for other people, which is different when nobody even knows what you look like. When you sit behind your computer, you have a lot more barriers to protect yourself with from strangers.
