I mean, given the current demographics of this forum, if we instituted something where you get to, for instance, give up/down mods then you just get tyranny of the majority and the majority is not good right now. It would probably drive away the good posters (which would be sad, because I've been here forever and I don't want to find new forums).
It wasn't that. It was a policy they basically said, "Moderation is understaffed. If someone consistently pisses you off, be a dear and just put them on ignore. You can report them, but try not to respond if you really think they are just a troll."
Instead, we got a rule stating that posters can't discuss ignoring someone or it's punishable due to "ignore gloating."

I love that there is a wikipedia entry on this and I am going to throw it at people until they interleave more.

But that's the point. We've reached the point where "I'm not speaking to you" is considered a fucking INSULT.
How fucking childish.

If I'm unemployed after grad school and sitting around in Japan with little to do, I can look into something because that could be good, but I'm sort of hoping not to be in that situation (and I also don't know how much work is actually involved in that kinda thing).
Well, as long as you get some decent mods its not too much work

Your style is classier though, with your hard rules and all.
I'm pretty sure I made a thread, at some point since we moved to this forum, about how obviously the best way to post is to interleave(though I didn't know to call it that), multi-quote using the topic review and multiple tabs, and use the hr tag to split up quotes from different people. I don't recall it going anywhere.

There's some degree of irony in this post.
Complains about sexism using national/racial stereotypes and generalizations about Asian cultures.

Do you know why? Because that's the central point of the game. It wouldn't make sense if they suddenly made princess peach into a fat bearded guy.
If you have a problem with them doing it in the first game, consider this. By saying that you would be saying that a woman can not be saved by a man because its sexist.

Not just a fat bearded guy. A fat bearded prince of the Mushroom Kingdom.

There's definitely a lot of sexism in video games.
Anita Sarkeesian has been doing a youtube series on the roles women play in video games, if you're interested.
Wow, yeah wondered how long it would take for her to come up.
My opinion is she is the female Jack Thompson, so way to go equality there is now a female video game critic who is as hated by gamers as the worst male critic ever was. I actually, was ok with her videos right up to the part at the end when she asserts that Super Mario Brothers somehow normalizes violence against women; i mean come on thats not a stretch it's huge leap. It's there likely some sexism in games yeah probably, is there sexism in society a little undeniably, but guess what no kid thinks its ok to beat up women because they played nintendo, I mean come on it sounds a lot like the arguments used to blame violent video games for every mass shooting ever. That said, people might do well to tone down the hate a bit.

It's entirely possible to consume (and enjoy) problematic media while thinking about the broader implications in a thoughtful way. This seems to be something that a lot of people do not understand, since many here seem to be under the impression that thinking critically about something means that one is out to destroy everything and omgz!
I usually do limit myself to stuff that I don't see as promoting messages I disagree with. My urge to argue with the game would prevent me from enjoying it at all.
