I also like how the puppets defending Alaje are somehow oblivious to the fact that he mistook women with female video game characters and acting as though these are one and the same. Or perhaps they don't consider this part of his fucking problem when it very clearly is.

This is especially ironic because earlier in the thread he was doing one of those "men in video games are typecast and unrealistic and not at all like most men" things. Yet for some reason, he thinks that video games accurately depict women (or at least this is suggested by the fact that he somehow can't tell women apart from video game "women").

I don't see how it would seem I think game females and real females are the same, when I've been saying "they're just games, calm you're tits" the whole time.

I was pointing out that sure some things about game characters annoy me too, but I don't scream "SEKSIZM SEKSIZM!!!!". Same goes for female characters, some of there designs are weird and gaudy, but its a game I can take it with a grain of salt. I'm not gonna die because a game.

Women are objectified in games; there's little debate to be had here. The vast vast vast majority of female characters in games are designed with the libidos of 15 year olds in mind, and we have reaped from this an endless parade of female characters with asses that could deflect a .50 BMG round and tits so large you'd need a spine made form titanium if it were real life.

Additionally, there is a trend to infantilise female game characters, with the most notable example being the girls for extreme beach volley-ball; notice how large their head are compared with their bodies? That's meant to convey a message of youth an a certain degree of inexperience to the (presumably) male view, with the implicit message that you don't have to try hard to 'please' them.

And may Morgan Freeman help the person who tries to discuss these trends. The second anyone raises the issue of sexism or women being objectified in games, they get met with a torrent of bile and hatred of the calibre one would expect to be reserved for snarky cartoonists. And I know this is just a minority. But the majority is often at fault for closing ranks and refusing to call these people out on their bullshit, preferring to let it fester in our ranks.

Few games glorify murder and crime. There are the GTA games, sure, but they're not the default, hence why they're so notorious. Most violent video games are about combat against the wicked. Now if games like GTA games (and I don't personally have anything against such games) become the default, and you have to look hard to find other sorts of games, then we should be concerned.

On the contrary, violent video games are proven to serve as outlets rather than promoters of violent behaviour.
They are stress relief.
Such an effect does not apply to the sociocultural normalisation though.
(So whilst the violence is defined as an acceptable break from reality, the treatment of women as sex objects & victims is... less so.)

The violence typically portrayed in games is a socially acceptable kind, though, typically fighting against criminals, terrorists, ect. If 90% of games featured parts where you had to beat your wife up for talking back to you, do you think there would be cause for concern?

I have played all of the PS2 era Grand Theft Auto games including some GTA4 and all of them are basically "rags to riches" stories, only through a life of crime or a trail of bloodshed. This plot formula is getting rather old and some of the newer features such as "girlfriends/friends" are just huge time wasters or annoyances that I have never cared about.

I have noticed that the newer games have only been getting larger and if it takes hundreds or thousands of hours or more to get 100% on, a lot of people simply aren't going to do so. I have given up on following that series and video games in general for the most part.

But yes, the GTA games had plenty of minor sexism. That is to be expected if it is marketed primarily to the young male demographic.

That's, again, completely reliant on the gamer.
The number of games isn't the problem. If anything, the number of games is a RESPONSE to consumer behaviour. And again, i'm telling you, most gamers do play at least one game that glorifies violence. Many gamers play games that exclusively do so.

It's sexist character depictions.
Precisely what I was talking about earlier. This isn't a problem with games. It's a problem with White Heterosexual Males being the default character model.
However, since games are now moving toward character customizability, this is a problem that will be fixed in games long before it's fixed in books and tv.
So why are we bothering talking about it, when we can focus on books and tv?

Well sexist games are an issue too, but you're talking about depicting a sexist era, then it would be silly to have accurate representation of women as soldiers and rulers.

And the White Heterosexual Male isn't just the problem with the character default: it's all the characters, whether playable or not, that actually are women. Male characters, while often portrayed as what one could consider sexy, are not defined by their fuckability. They aren't wearing assless chap armor, you see?
