Once my mom asked my dad to pick up some pads at Costco... and he didn't notice that there was a difference between "regular" and "thin".

I feel like that's the exact same image that was on the tampon/pad dispenser at my high school (though again, I suspect that they sold actual pads/tampons there).

That seems to be part of it, since my mother stuck with the regulars until menopause. She said she didn't feel as "secure" with the thin ones, because they didn't feel like they ought to be able to soak up a lot. I thought and continue to think that she's crazy.

Heh. Those tend to have more leather and locks and such, although menstrual belts probably functioned pretty effectively in that regard, too, if only because I have a hard time imagining anyone being especially turned on by high-waisted bloodstained diaper-thongs.

TSS is mostly an issue of using tampons that are too heavy for your flow as well. I buy OB tampons which have a decent gradient for different flow (and are easy to insert plus the lack of applicator means that they're less wasteful).

Also, once I switched to tampons I never, ever wanted to switch back to pads. I tried once and it was just all gross-feeling.

I find I like tampons best for the first half of a period, and pads best for the second half. Pads on heavy days feel gross and require changing too frequently, and tampons on light days are painful to insert and remove. Hooray for having options! I don't know how women did it back when it was all giant pads, all the time.

We just do, I guess. I think it's the same idea with rags.

Regarding menstration cups: I've heard of them and I'm curious, but I'm not sure I have the patience to wash it every night.

By the time I had finally used my first tampon, I already knew how to use it. Then again, like I have said on this forum before, I was precocious when it came to bodily functions and the health sciences in general since I was 11, and the reproductive system was no different.
