Not very respectful if you think of her as a boy. Often unintentional, but regardless.

Your sexuality is irrelevant really.
And you should care enough to show the same compassion that you would want shown to you.
You disrespect your friend by referring to her as "he" despite the clear decision regarding their gender.
She is a woman, regardless of the genitalia they were born with.
That's how it works, and paying lip-service (whilst better than nothing) isn't quite the same as respecting them.

If your mind isn't registering the update then maybe it needs rebooted.

So how would i reword it? "I knew a girl that wanted to be a girl and i called her a girl"? At one point in there life she was a boy. Rebooted? Nah, you can just say that she's a trans woman. It can be difficult for you to reconcile that, lord knows it's a huge change! I'm just saying you need to work to challenge those preconceptions.

(Should I presume you are a non-native English speaker rather than just poorly literate?)
Here's the rewording:
You know someone that was born with male genitalia & revealed to you later that they're a woman, contrary to your initial assumption.

And yes, "rebooted". The analogy holds because you're stuck in a known error.
So you should, in an ideal world, seek to correct your flawed manner of thinking.
(As in, mentally adjusting your language so that you remember she is a woman and use the appropriate pronouns consistently until it becomes completely natural to do so.)

Really? I was under the impression that questioning was a conscious act & blind acceptance of assumed realities was the domain of cultists and fools.
New information, when it's valid, should completely overwrite old false information.
What you refer to as "subconscious" is simply engrained patterns.
It's not your subconscious; it's your learned errors proving resistant to fact.

They're "intersex". True hermaphroditism is extremely rare, & considered incorrect terminology as well as potentially pejorative language.
But yes, the person you quote is grossly ignorant and misinformed regarding the diversity of sex and gender.

I recognise that they exist, people identify with genders beyond Male and Female and it's pointless denying that they exist. However, I have a hard time comprehending what exactly they are. I can understand indentifing as a man while being biologically female and visa versa, but I don't really understand a lot of the other ways people itentify themselves (agender, trigender, etc)

This nation should not be taken to be representative of my real-life views, nor should any of the nonsense I posted on here as a teenager.

True hermaphrodites are exceedingly rare, but nonetheless, WIKIPEDIA EXPLAINS!
Unless you meant to say intersex, in which case, once again, WIKIPEDIA EXPLAINS!

What little fact? She's still a woman regardless of genitalia.
The assumption that you made was that penis automatically equals male.
Which I pointed out was an erroneous assumption.

Calling blue red dose not make it red. Her chromosomes will always say male. How ever as i said before i respect her decision by calling her a girl. I do not see the problem here...

Calling purple "blue" or "red" is an error either way.
And indeed her chromosomes aren't the point.
Neurology, biochemistry, psychology... All of those are far more important to identity than XX, XY, or any permutation thereof.
The problem stems from your mistaken assumptions feeding into your thought-patterns.
Ideally, you would be thinking the right things as well as saying them.

This is a friendly reminder that this thread is about gender, not sex. I mean, in case the title and OP didn't hint you. So using biology and genitalia to say that there are only two genders doesn't work too well.

I get that it might be a bit odd to get used to, but she is now a woman. Maybe after a while you'll start thinking of her as a she.

My friend was called Sammy and wanted to be called Sammy, but now he prefers to be called Sam so I call him Sam.

It's adorable to me that there are people who think gender is any more significant than this.
