I'd beg to differ. Given the horrendous injury problems on defense, that we've managed to win a few games since the injury bug has hit is promising. Not for this year, no, but that we haven't had a total and absolutely collapse is at least a little bit heartening.

I mean, the heart of the defense (Briggs) is out, our best cornerback and turnover machine is done for the year (Tillman), both starting DTs are out for the season, DE/utlity man Shea McClellin is hurt but still playing, our 3rd string DT is out (Paea), our starting nickel corner (Hayden) has been out for the season, starting middle linebacker (DJ Williams) out for the season...

That's most of our defense being out either for the season or an extended period of time. To be able to win at all with such a hodgepodge of players (mostly young and inexperienced players thrown into the line of fire before they're ready) is a hopeful sign for the future.

This year is all but forfeit, but it has given some valuable playing time to youngsters and has given the offense a relatively pressure-free year to learn Trestman's system. And hey - better to finish 8-8 and get a middle of the road draft pick than to go to the playoffs without a chance of winning the SB, isn't it?

Back to a 4-3 after he leaves? It still strikes me as odd to see you guys playing 3-4 after being so used to seeing you line up with the good old 4-3 year in and year out, even though Capers has been there for a while now.

No, we don't need to do that, just open the playbook op a bit. We should not be running that same stupid right run play for Michael Bush every time we're near the goal line. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out it's coming anytime we're inside the 3 or so and we send in Michael Bush.

Compare it to last week, when Trestman was grilled by the media for calling three straight passes near the goal line.

Some people just can't be pleased, I guess.

RE: Trollgaard- So basically you think the single-wing offense of the 1930s can work in today's NFL? :palm:

Probably not game after game as the only thing. But maybe for a drive or two here in there. Or a few plays from time to time. It would be pretty neat to see, too; especially if it worked!

Aaron fucking caught it.

Eighteen years later, and I still remember, clear as day: Aaron caught the goddamn ball.

Liar. And if he had ( WHICH HE DIDN'T), the Cowboys would've beaten the Colts by at least 40.

If no one uses for 10-15 years then suddenly bring it back, it'll work. That is unless Gooddell ruins the league.

Hmm...well that is certainly something similar. I'm thinking a little bit more old school than that, though. Like the single wing, or notre dame box type thing...

or even older...pre-single wing? What was that called?

T-formation was pretty much dominant before then.

I think the T-formation was en vogue after the single wing started fading away.

Most of these formations have some intention of 'tricking' the defense. How about a no holds barred 'we're going to run the ball right up the middle and right over you' offense as the primary component. Get the biggest, meanest, toughest, most enduring SOB's you can find, train 'em up all off season and bang, surprise, you just got run over by the MEAN TEAM!

That sounds pretty damn cool.

A thought, this goes out to errybody: I know people have mixed feeling about Tim Tebow, but from my (limited) knowledge of him, he seems like he could be a decent QB for that style of offense. What do all you scrupples think?

What the fuck? What has he done?

Anyways, the question wasn't whether you liked him. It was whether or not he could play that style of offense better than how most offenses are played now.

No, it's not that. It's because he shoves his religion down everyone's throats.

I watch football for the game, not for some Christian to preach how godly he is.

Note: Before someone accuses me of being a butthurt Atheist, Polomalu is devoutly religious, and I love the guy! Thing is, 1.) he actually practices Christian morals and 2.) he keeps it to himself.

So...no thoughts on a return to something like a single wing?

And no thoughts of Tebow, or a QB somewhat similar (maybe QBs like Michael Vick? just brainstorming, here) would work well in that type of offense?
