You can clearly see the 9ers upper arm connect with Brees's neck.

I'll admit that I doubt he intended to hit Bree's neck. He is after all short for a QB, but regardless, it was the correct call.

And even so, the 49ers got the ball afterwords and didn't score.

"As you can plainly see, it's exactly two micrometers above the neck area in what now call the Underchin. SO not a penalty"

Look, I hate that this is a rule as much as the next guy who hates pussying the sport, but it was called right on the field, and the Niners had no less than two opportunities to score afterwards and failed.

I'll throw my 2 Cents in on those two controversial calls in the 49ers/Saints game:

1.Drew Brees was hit in the neck. At the very least, the 49er player's arm was a fraction of an inch short. Honestly, you can't expect a Referee to see that. In normal speed, it looked like an illegal tackle, and it was rightfully called. The 49er should not have tackled that close to the neck. If you don't wanna be flagged, don't make a tackle that is 1/2 inch close to being illegal.

2. Kaepernick was out of the pocket and out of the endzone. From what I remember, the Right Tackle tucked back in, which doesn't (I believe) alter the tackle box. Kaep was just inside the Tackle Box.

The two calls were both close and you're expecting too much by an official to make every call that is 1/2 an inch from being illegal. They have a tough job, and I feel like we as fans really give them shit.

If you really wanna know bad calls, look at those uncalled Unnecessary Roughness penalties of Geno. But either way, let's rebound from that loss Gang Green. Go Jets!

Not as annoying as the slang "swag," which had its moment once upon a time. But that time is now dead. So yeah, while FDB may be nuts to an nth degree politically, I lol'd.

Wow, stunning response.

Yes, it was. Brook's biceps clearly connects with Bree's neck. And Brooks then proceeds to bring down Brees by the neck.

My feed died, but the Panthers were doing pretty well at the start of the third. It's probably against code to root for them as a Saints fan, but I'm not a Pat's fan, and I want a good game that has meaning when the Saints play them, because I'm gonna be at the game.

I want the pats to win for the breathing room to mess up if needed. I like the panthers more than the patriots too though

Above the blue line in your photo is the neck, correct? The whole arm is below that line. The red line is irrelevant as it was Brees' momentum carrying his head forward into Brooks' biceps. At real speed... yes it looked like a WWE clothsline, but it's not.

That's my final word on it.

Unfortunately, refs don't see in slow motion. They see in real speed.

Honestly, he's probably lucky it was called, it's so close that if it wasn't called he'd probably have woken up to a fine.

I lost the feed so I didn't see the call, but I blame the nuancing of the rulebook. The rules are getting so situational and so protective it's making the game impossible to play, especially on defense.

That rule that they called against Brooks? Shit's gotta go, just let the guys play, quit expecting refs to value judge every hit on a QB. These rules protecting receivers? Same thing.

If Terry Bradshaw didn't benefit from it, it needs to go.

In case you guys are wondering, the ball was thrown underneath. There was no way that the intended receiver could get to the ball even if he wasn't being hugged by the defensive player. The ball was fully uncatchable. Good call on the refs.

Anyway, WOOT! GO ANTI-PATRIOTS! Come back when you don't have a stick shoved up your ass, Aqib Talib!

Oh, cool, a gif is already available. Seriously guys, how could you possibly say Gronkowski could have gotten to where the ball was going from his position on the field?:

Image

Seriously guys, how could you possibly say Gronkowski could have gotten to where the ball was going from his position on the field? Go find different angles if that's not convincing enough for you. Gronk's own momentum was carrying him away from the ball. He tried to slow down. Let's say the defensive player wasn't hugging him. Do you guys really think Gronk could accelerate fast enough to come back and grab the ball? Without the hug, the d-player would have still been in his way. Gronk may be a miracle worker but he can't perform the impossible.
