I thought it would be nice to take a poll of what religion everybody considers themselves.

No, I'm not really a Jain, but I do prefer to do without clothing.

I am the very model of a Nation States General,
I am a holy terror to apologists Confederal,

For now I've picked 'atheist' in the sense that I don't believe in any particular diety. 'Agnostic' simply means you wouldn't claim to know whether there is or not, just as I don't claim to know, but it's not mutually exclusive with atheism, nor is it mutually exlusive with theism. (Though for what it's worth, I do think it's probably incompatible with religious fundamentalism)

And Nanatsu, I fail to see the need to complain about this thread. Why couldn't you just ignore it? I've noticed quite a few persistent threads here that I don't like, but I try to ignore them instead of complaining about them.

Yes, that would have been a good poll option.

One of them should just be made a sticky so it doesn't keep getting repeated, same for politics. No debate, just a poll.

I don't believe in god or anything supernatural, but I chose other because I don't think that the label of atheism has much meaning. Why should I define myself by something that I lack? There's no word for non-astrologers, or for people who don't collect stamps, why should people who lack belief in the gods have a label? Instead, I define myself as a naturalist and an empiricist, because these are both positive statements of belief. Empiricists do not accept any proposition that lacks evidence. Naturalists do not believe that there is nothing supernatural. I believe that if there are gods, or there is esp, or ghosts, then such things possess a naturalistic explanation, and so don't qualify as supernatural, if they exist. Now, I don't believe in any of those things because they lack evidence, but I'm explaining just what I mean by naturalism.

I am a naturalist empiricist.

Indeed, especially when there are, oh I don't know, 4 more threads dealing with the subject of religion. You know, there are other topics that can be discussed: economy, world politics, silly news articles, inanity. Religion threads are good, in small doses.

I didn't mean this to be a religion thread where religion is debated. Just a poll.

This poll is suspiciously missing the "heathen" option.
Venicilian: wow. Jesus hung around with everyone. boys, girls, rich, poor(mostly), sick, healthy, etc. in fact, i bet he even went up to gay people and tried to heal them so they would be straight.
The Parkus Empire: Being serious on NSG is like wearing a suit to a nude beach.
New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

Me thinks you forgot "Satanist"...
Voted agnostic by the way...
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.- Carl Sagan
