Because this is, really, what this whole pointing fingers at shit and categorizing it as either misogynistic or not has come down to.

Neither porn nor prostitution is inherently misogynistic. We're talking about misogynistic porn. Porn that degrades women. It's not irregular.

Just because they consent to it, doesn't make it degrading as a whole. Just because someone like being degraded doesn't mean the way women are portrayed by the porn industry isn't degrading to women. Consent and degradation don't have anything to do with each other.

Consent and degradation have everything to do with each other. A woman isn't 'degrading women' by becoming a stripper. Nor is she 'degrading women' if she becomes a pornstar.

Now, one could easily say that in their own view she is degrading herself, but the self is rather far removed from the nebulous concept of 'womanhood' and no one seems to make the opposing claim that MEN in the porn industry are degrading themselves (or, interestingly 'manhood' as a concept). This would seem to suggest that the attitude that women doing so is degrading to womanhood as a whole is, actually, a remnant of sexism itself. I'm unsure if I believe that (I think I do) but that is the counterpoint.

To clarify, I'm not arguing that porn isn't represented misogynistically. The focus towards men is rather obvious. But that that doesn't inherently make it degrading to women or womanhood if women take part in such represented acts because they either enjoy them or agree to them.

I don't think it matters if porn is degrading. I think it matters if something is degrading without consent. If the woman wants to do something that leads to her being degraded, but she's fine with that, then who you to stop her?

I do admit some things are fucked up out there in terms of pornographic media, and it should be a bit reformed in my opinion, but hey, there's something for everyone out there. Some women like to see those fantasies played out.

The only misogynist part of porn is that almost the entirety of it is made exclusively for men. Even gay porn is made more for gay men than it is for women. It's misogynistic because of its marketing and demographics, not because of any inherent property or state of being.
