The whole thing is somewhat flawed. Usually a good relationship is incredibly similar to a close friendship. Though I do understand why some nice guys would be upset as there are bad girls who will lead you on and use you then toss you away. Guys who are upset that being nice isn't rewarded by sex, are pretty disgusting. Not saying all self defined "nice guys" are like that, but it's not uncommon.

On reflection, I think it is uncommon for guys to expect to personally receive sexual favors because they are nice. Guys who think their own niceness merits sexual attention from some specific woman who they are not already sleeping with on a regular basis are vanishingly rare. (Guys who expect additional sex for being nice while already in a sexual relationship, different story; also not a "friend zone" story.)

The overwhelming majority of young men are used to not getting sex from women they're interested in. The ones that are teenagers are used to getting passed over for older guys, being told they or their prospective partners are simply not old enough to be having sex yet, et cetera. The ones that are of drinking age know damn well - most of them - that buying a drink for a girl barely merits a smile and a wave.

I'm not saying there aren't men who aren't upset about women passing over nice guys for assholes; but there's nothing disgusting about that. It's OK to be upset about women dating assholes, men dating shallow bitches, "society" (read: people with money) demanding that you wear a pantsuit in order to keep your job, et cetera. We're allowed to have feelings and make judgements about each other. The uncommon sense of sexual entitlement that's been injected into this story? Just because you don't like what happened doesn't mean you feel entitled to a different result.

Plenty of "nice guys," especially the teenaged ones, have low enough self-esteem to believe they really don't deserve happiness. Doesn't mean they stop wanting happiness.

One survey, conducted on men who answered "yes" to questions designed to elicit a positive response from date rapists - I'm talking about Kanin (1985) - found that they did tend to feel sexually entitled compared to the control group; but they were also generally hypersexual men, as well. The "popular" sort of guy who has no trouble getting attention from women. The sexual entitlement feminists are trying to peg on "nice guys" having trouble getting attention from women? It's actually a feature of men with the opposite characteristic: An easy time getting attention from women, with an aggressive strategy towards getting that attention.

From what I know, which I feel is more than most, the characteristics being assigned to nice guys in the feminist backlash against nice guys and talking about the friend zone simply don't belong to them. Getting constantly rejected doesn't build up a sense of entitlement; it destroys self-esteem, instead.
