Yes, Pluto should be a planet. It's pulled itself into a sphere under its own gravity, it orbits a star, and it has moons*...

They day they make muh little babby Eris a planet is the day that all Dwarf Planets will be considered one.

But until then, Pluto is destined to be another rock in orbit around the Sun who isn't good enough to rub shoulders with the Titans; Earth, Saturn and the rest of them.

Unless he slays a space dragon or something. In which case, I say that he is crowned the king of Sol.

Planet: A celestial body moving in an elliptical orbit around a star.

....therefore....Pluto is a planet. :eyebrow: AmIright?

Great, let's recognize Halley as a planet.

No, you aren't, because that's not the definition of a planet.

It orbits around a point between itself and Charon.

That's not the definition of a planet.

A planet is an astronomical object orbiting a star or stellar remnant that is massive enough to be rounded by its own gravity, is not massive enough to cause thermonuclear fusion, and has cleared its neighbouring region of planetesimals.

Pluto has not cleared it's neighbouring region of planetesimals, thus is not a planet.

Indeed, when Charon was first spotted, we thought it was Pluto's moon. Then we built bigger and better telescopes: Pluto and Charon are a dual planet system rotating about each other and also both rotating around the Sun. Both Pluto and Charon are planets.

But Pluto and Charon are ROUND. Ceres and Vesta are ROUND so they are planets too. Most asteroids ain't round, so they ain't planets.

Because they're not just a bunch of random traits chosen because "lol why not"? Hence the link to the reason planets are grouped together.

Neptune has NOT cleared its orbit because Pluto is still there. Is Neptune degraded to Untermensch Planet?

Great Franconia and Verana wrote:Should Pluto still be a planet? A few years ago, Pluto was declassified from Planet status to Dwarf Planet status. What is your opinion Ns? I think they were right, Pluto is similar in size to several objects near it ,and is too small and similar in shape to all the to all the other things out at the fringe regions of the solars system. all those small planets, like Eris for example, are not classified as planets. Nor should Pluto be.

Technically those aren't why Pluto was declassified to dwarf Planet. Also, some of those aren't true (e.g. it's not similar in shape to all the other things out there... most other things out there aren't spherical).

It definitely shouldn't be a planet either.
