In a way, this may hurt the business if the parity of the bar's clientele is above 50%. If it is not, then he may be able to save face and resume business as usual.

In a business like a bar, and in fact any kind of small business, detracting more than 50% of your current customer base is the equivalent of financial suicide, and the only way to save face is:

1) spend more in being more attractive to more clients from the same demographic
2) Cut costs and deal with current customer base
3) Close the business if you are not breaking even

It depends how much of an impact the bar is going to have with this new policy that he will have to adapt though.

If that is so, then the manager must enforce those rules equally. There was another case, a while back, of a gay bar which banned bachelorette parties, because they were effectively taking over the establishment. Gay men were leaving the bar because they had wanted a place to hang out, relax, maybe pick up dudes, and it was turning into a place where they were paying for the privilege of having drunken straight women wearing penis tiaras leer at them. That ban provoked the exact same reaction of "this is so unfair and oppressive to the straight people" and "that business will totally lose money."

Last I heard, that business is doing perfectly fine. Because gay men have money, and they choose to spend more of it at a bar where they don't get treated as entertainment for inebriated bridesmaids-to-be. Go figure!

What was in the OP was something amounting to an objection to establishments that discriminate based on sexual orientation in the aims of segregating homosexuals and heterosexuals from each other.
