I do feel a need to clarify one bit, so allow me to indulge. I want to address this "neo art doesn't think it's discrimination when done against straight people".

It most certainly is. Or, to be more precise, it's discrimination against conduct that disparately impacts straight people. This...rabid and unrelenting attempt to try and pin me down, screaming "SAY IT! SAY IT'S DISCRIMINATION! SAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY IIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTT" that certain company has engaged in here seems to be based primarily on the same limited and fundamentally childish thinking I alluded to earlier, this myopic, uneducated, unintelligent, and fundamentally stupid idea that they've latched on to, with all the trifling intellectual might that they're capable of mustering, that "discrimination = bad!" and have thus attempted to try and "trap" me into "admitting" that it's discrimination, thus *cough* forcing me into doing a 180 on my belief system because, to these towering monuments of intellectual vapidity "discrimination = bad" and "this = discrimination" and therefore, displaying all the grand thinking of a kindergarten math class, "this = bad"

And when I come along and state, actually, I don't find it that bad, the ENTIRE effort has now swung, with singleminded (because we seem incapable of more) fury, to try and make me admit "this=discrimination" and thus force me to conclude "this = bad" just as they, demonstrating the faculties that make them suited to push shopping carts at walmart, have concluded is the natural and probable result.

And therefore, they have been stymied, utterly stuck, and completely incapable of moving on from the fact that while I freely admit this is a discriminatory act, it's one I'm just not all that bothered by.

Because, once again "discrimination = bad!" is how children think. And I'm not a child.

I don't see how discrimination against straight people is necessary. If it's because of the years of discrimination gay people have been getting, then that's like saying discrimination towards a white person is okay even if he's not racist, it's okay because white people have been known to be racist throughout history. That's your logic, or what it seems to be to me.

I mean yes, you are right, discrimination many times is necessary. In this case though I tend to see the policy as stupid, not so much discriminatory because all they are doing is driving away customers (and revenue much needed for the business).

The problem with being on the "have" side of the socio-political reality, as opposed to the "have not" side, is that you tend to think that you're the only important demographic in the room. Not a "fault" per se, but one we need to look at.

You're one of several people in this thread that has called this policy "stupid" or "wrong" or "driving away customers" which will "hurt the business".

Because "straight people who want to go to a gay bar and make out with their significant other" is somehow automatically viewed as a more valuable demographic than "gay people who want to have a safe space for them to socialize without being reminded of the fact that they're still an oppressed minority"

Oh no, I am not assuming that straight people who want to go to a gay bar and make out with their significant other is a more valuable demographic. I am just thinking in terms of marginal profit per se. Of course, being a gay bar I would expect for it to be driven towards customers who are homosexual, but at the business level you also want to maximize profits, which this policy in the gay bar is not doing if it does, indeed, drive away more customers than what it attracts, regardless of demographic.

I am sincerely not looking at it in terms of demographics, I am looking at it as a financial transaction at this point. If I was the owner of said bar I would not place such a policy that is going to drive away money. Then again I think in maximum profits, he may think differently, which is okay too if he can make a profit with the current clientele he has or that he is projecting in the future.
