But it is not like it is a trademarked name.
Again, it is a name, but it's one associated with a culture that has been systematically exploited time and again when not being exterminated, so the least Jeep could do is get their damn approval.

Our US military designate an attack chopper the Apache, which means they're advocating for the mass murder of Native Apache tribespeople with military helicopters! WoooooooooooOOOOoooooooOooooooooOo!
What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

I notice though that the tribe itself is not all that upset about it though. Plus as I noted before, the Times never said anything about the name of the Grand Cherokee despite the fact that it has been around longer since the Cherokee name was dropped from 2001-2014.

I only thought a few opportunists were on board with that. The whole tribe supports it? Really.

If I were a tribal leader (and I thankfully aren't) I'd be honored to have my tribe share the same name as a really good car. Better buy out all the Jeeps and Hummers before the revolution comes. :lol2:

Which is why I'm wondering if the Times just needed to fill space. They lambasted the Cherokee on their own, yet the VW Touareg gets a pass even though the name is the exact same thing, only in this case it's a berber tribe that's being trademarked.

Guess since the word Grand is in there, is really makes it sound awesome instead of just regular Cherokee. :p

That is true, they did complain about the fuel economy because Chrysler came out with the newest one after receiving a bailout.

As I understand it, the Cherokee Cherokee aren't complaining about the name. It's more that they would've liked to be consulted first on its usage by Chrysler.

I've never met someone of Cherokee heritage who was insulted by it, nor am I aware of any groups within the Cherokee people who are against it; so I guess it really isn't.

If this is cunturally insensitave, take up an issue with the Army helicopters as well, they use names of Native American tribes as well, but we don't see them taking fire like this.
