I have seen many forms of political correctness in the UK from the White councillors trying to stop a school play because it might offend Muslims even though the Muslims said that they didn't care to the man who told my mother that she couldn't say black coffee because it would offend black people (once again, the man that said that was white). There are also examples here in nationstates with people creating threads which ask questions about whether something on e television is good for children or not.

So I put this to you nationstates, do you think that political correctness has gone to far? I also want to know if you think that one group of people (in the examples above white liberal councillors) have the right to speak out for a certain group of people even if that group does not care?

In my opinion, if it does not effect you and you are not targeted by the supposed offensive thing then you should not complain about it, what gives a person the right to tell other people not to do something which the people in question do not care about?

I know that the people that I am targeting are probably a minority but is this a sign of things to come?

Yes but what if that right is used but then stops the people from doing what they wished, in my example of the nativity play, it was still banned even after the Muslims said that they didn't care. Instead I believe that they did a play about pirates.

This has absolutely nothing to do with free speech. In fact, it curtails free speech. In Western Europe, we've seen political leaders put on trial for voicing their opposition to the idea of a 'multicultural society'. It's not a problem that the people in charge tell other people what they think should be done - the problem is that they're actually banning certain forms of behaviour, putting up rules for others and putting sanctions on other people saying what they want to say. They're not asking nicely - they're putting a ban on something and enforcing it for the sake of not offending a minority, usually Muslims.

You don't have to participate. You could just sort out your own nativity.

We have a problem that's actually a bit similar in the Netherlands. We have a tradition called Zwarte Piet, which is the black, well-dressed assistant of Saint Nicholas, the saint who inspired Santa and has his own holiday here. Even though black people here tend to not give a damn about it, the progressive left throughout the western world is up in arms, telling us we should ban this tradition because Zwarte Piet happens to be black.

And in response you want to stop people from doing what they wish, i.e. being PC.

Personally, I think they can say what they want. My problem is with the fact that they're actually trying to force other people to do what they want.
Through organisation rules, through social exclusion or even through courts.
