Cannot think of a name wrote:My grandfather was kind of full of awesome, though when I knew him he was the scary guy who had a stroke and sat on the couch.

But before my dad was born he was a professional race car driver in a time where that didn't mean what it means today (sponsorship and big teams etc) but rather more vagabond and weird grease monkey style. He set a landspeed record (of some sort, not the land speed record as far as I know, but there's a picture of him on what looks like a Marmon stripped down to an engine, wheels and a hood and "111 mph" on the back), he did Pike's Peak and board track racing on motorcycles and midgets. Basically anything he could go fast in.

I eventually raced using his number, but never even came close to his lofty heights.

You should edit that to make it clear that your grand-dad was a racer before your dad was born, not your dad before he himself was born. That would be a hell of a story, though.

I would, but it makes the story way more impressive. This is why I have to work with collaborators...

When I was around 11 or 12 years old, I got to see the "Regata Colon", an event to celebrate the 500 years of the discovery of the Americas. Ships, or what are called 'buques escuela' in Spanish (210 ships to be more specific), went on a 4 months voyage celebrating Columbus's first voyage. I got to see them when they stopped in Cadiz, Spain. It was amazing.
