In some ways arguably, but think the whole underweight thing is a little silly considering they're cartoon drawings, and are bound to have some radical differences from an actual body. This isn't to say it's not totally harmless (I'm sure there's at least someone crazy enough to try to turn themselves into a cartoon), but I think it's fair to point out that cartoons aren't exactly the finest place to be looking for messages on body shape.
While Disney still holds to some unfortunate stereotypes, I do think that at least in modern times, it has been getting better. You have to remember that different Disney movies were made in different times, when certain aspects and thoughts were acceptable and others weren't. A movie made in the 40's is not a movie made in the 90's. Times change, and the media changes with it. That's why in "Peter Pan" we have this awful little number, whereas later we get "Pocahontas," which although not exactly the most accurate film in the world, at least had the flip message of, "Hey, racism is kind of assholish." One new trend I've noticed in newer Disney movies (Brace, Tangled, Princess and the Frog) is that they seem to be adding more of a theme of the struggle for self-discovery being the primary driving point.

Of course, that's just movie wise. As for the awful sitcoms and pseudo-celebrities? Bleck, no, kill it with fire. They're all quite hypocritical. "Everybody should be who they naturally are! All of our given role models just so happen to naturally fit society's expectations." "You need to always follow your dreams! So long as that dream is becoming a famous singing idol." "I'm an ordinary girl, just like you! Ignore my clear comfortable, upper class, wish-fulfillment dotted luxuries such as fashionable clothes and exquisite housing." "Be nice to everyone, no matter what! Unless they have obscenities like acne, dandruff, have weird hobbies, a speech impediment, or god forbid, actually care about schoolwork! If you must hang out with them, make sure they're the butt monkey of your group and occasionally toss them a heart-felt 'nice moment' every few episodes before going right back to treating them like crap." "I'm not popular at school either, you know! Never mind how gorgeous or clearly rich I am, I'm sure all the picked on kids in your school are like that too."
⟡ and in time, and in time, we will all be stars ⟡

It's no laughing matter. My children will watch those programmes with highly sexualised knees, and they will be affected. It might look all innocent now, but my kids will grow up with knee fetishes. Doesn't that thought sicken you? Big knees, small knees... knobbles! No, Disney is a menace that must be stopped now.

Well, except that it wasn't a "nude photoshoot." It was a "teenager wearing a halter top with a blanket over it" photoshoot. You can't see anything but her face, her shoulder, and part of her mid-to-upper back. The outrage over it as if she'd been abused by Annie Leibowitz was a bit much.

Miley Cyrus is hitting the clubs and doing drugs, but there's no indication that it's having a negative impact on her life or career, so I fail to see what the issue is. When she was with Disney, her job was to toe the company line and be a role model. She's not with Disney anymore. Her job is to put out music that she wants to put out.

Who the fuck is Amanda Bynes?

Violence Honestly I dont have a problem with, I would be more than happy to watch some old war movies with my elementary school age kids(the goo ones mind you like "Lawrence of Arabia", "Lion of the desert", etc) many of them are very well crafted. Lawrence especially, it shows a conflicted man who on the inside is breaking down completely. But overly sexualization, showing of terrible role models(Barbey, Disney princesses), and such things that Disney does I refuse to let those influence my child. I want my child to look up to this not this

My daughters will be warriors not princesses.

Except, amazingly, something not being relevant to you does not actually magically render it irrelevant to other people. You are perfectly allowed not to care about media criticism or Disney movies, but it looks very, very silly when you show up in a discussion solely to tell people, repeatedly, just how much you don't care about that discussion.

Never thought about it like that. I still think that its okay though because in the end the beast learned how to behave properly and really the most enduring message of a movie comes at the end.
