Why Luton? Wrexham's the club to be! We just signed N'tame, so now Cameroon taking over.
Sounds about right, but hugely overpriced English/British players, Carroll, Henderson, Adam, Downing.

I think that was during Kenny's weird waste-money-on-overpriced-transfers phase, wasn't it? Before he got the boot?

Apart from Allen at £15 mil and probably overspending on Mignolet this summer, I can't think of any that are too overpriced. His only other spending over 10 mil was on Borini and Sturridge, right?

The £4m for Sahin's loan want exactly money well spent. Which is Rodgers's fault in execution, although it was a good idea. Borini was also a mite overpriced, and Allen definitely didn't have a £15m season last year.
Although I'm not a big fan of judging on one season.

It's hard to say with Allen if he'll be worth it this year - he got off to a great start least season, if I recall correctly, and did pretty well in the Europa League. That he was able to find his feet so quickly reflects well on him. I imagine there's something of the footballing equivalent of culture shock in moving from Swansea to a team like Liverpool at a young age, with the increased pressure and expectations and whatnot.
And he's signed until 2017. That means Liverpool will have him until he's around 27/28 years old (so pretty much the peak age for a midfielder), when they can possibly sell him for profit if he really shows up.

Yeah but wasn't that more to do with Liverpool simply not converting the crosses he was putting in? I'm sure I read something about that. He was basically creating as many chances as he had at Villa, but they weren't being converted. Unless that was his second season and I'm getting mixed up.
I'm still of the opinion that if Downing had scored his Maradona at Anfield on the first day of the season both he and the team would have been much better that year. It's the little psychological things.

It doesn't matter too much, but lets Klinsi do a little bit of tinkering with the back line before qualifiers start again. And with Dempsey being left behind to adjust and settle in to Seattle and Donovan being off the roster (but almost sure to be on the qualifiers roster come September) there'll be some open spots on the first team for peripheral players to make a strong case against on of the better sides the US has faced since beating Italy.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the back line performs. Gonzalez, Goodson, and Besler were all left off the roster, so it could be a good chance for Geoff Cameron to impress at center back (despite playing fullback at Stoke under Pulis, I'm not sure how he'll be used under Hughes) and possibly Tim Ream from Bolton, who has plenty of potential but has been pretty absent from the USMNT since his blunders at the 2011 Gold Cup.
Lots of young guys, which is good for a friendly. Tim Howard is the oldest at 34, Jermaine Jones second oldest at 32.
