In other news, disappointed with Reading's 3-3 draw with Watford, we were winning 3-1 at one point.

God, I feel embarrassed being in some way connected with him...

Didn't see the first half, but I don't think the second penalty should have been given. Looked like Koscielny got his foot to the ball. In fairness to the ref, in the replay from the angle closest to the view he would have had, it wasn't so clear, but then he had to have been 100% sure to give the penalty. Had that not been given, it would remain 1-1, Koscielny wouldn't subsequently have been sent off, and who knows...?

First penalty was a pretty clear call in my opinion. The second was not - the tackle looked pretty good to me. His assistant down that side looked like he had a great line of vision, I don't know why the ref decided penalty there. Koscielny looks like a total dick though so I don't feel too bad for him.

Fair play to Villa though. They looked sharp, first ten minutes aside. Agbonlahor has got to be about the hardest working player in the Premier League, and Guzan came up with some top notch saves.

Wilshere needs to calm down sometimes though. It seems to me that it was his standoffishness that turned the game so chippy. He's too tiny to try to be a macho tough-guy, it just comes off as silly.

I just sat on my sofa after the game and thought if I had said in 2005 that Arsenal wouldn't win another trophy in the next 8+ years I would've been laughed at.
Now I'm just sitting in my armchair consoling myself over the shit we are now in.

The only thing that could have made this day better would have been a Wayne Rooney goal.

Oh, come off it. We've lost one game after a bad refereeing decision. We've built a great stadium, got loads of fringe players off the wage bill, better sponsorship deals, etc. etc. Yeah, it's ridiculous that a club of Arsenal's stature, with the players we've had, haven't won a trophy in so long, but we're better off than a lot of teams. I'm still backing us to finish at least fourth (yes, I know that's not a trophy  ), just like I did after we got whacked 8-2 by United a couple of years ago.

Angel Rangel has decided to forget how to defend. Fucking great. :palm:

I'm annoyed by that; great goals from United (Well, except the second) but such poor defending. Still, Moyes always seems to work us out so at least we have this game out of the way.

Plus, the taffs lost. That's always pleasing.

I do still think we will finish fourth. But I think it's ridiculous that we only fovus on that every season. We have one of the best stadiums in the World,we have top youth systems, coaching staff and one of the most financially stable clubs in the world.
We have finished in the CL places every year since Wenger's arrival. We have also now finally almost paid off the stadium I believe. We have a squad of players that for the first time since 2006 hasn't been weakened by big name exits. We now have a supposed 'war chest' but we can not get any players in.Whether that is the clubs fault I'm not sure. But why not buy a world class signing like a 'Bergkamp esque' signing. After he arrived Arsenal changed into what it is today....why not do that this season?
*I know that Bergkamp arrived before Wenger. He arrived in 1995 along with David Platt. But those signings kick started a revolution which cultimated in winning the title in 1998.

Went out with some friends and unfortunately wasn't able to watch the Swansea-Man U game. So what the heck happened to Swansea. Anyone care to update what went wrong?

They were much better than the scoreline shows. Some great goals from Man U, poor weather conditions making it diffocult tk play Swansea's attractive, flowing game, and a general difference in class. 4-1 is an embarrassing scoreline, but it doesn't tell the proper story. Swansea deserved to lose, but the three goal margin is harsh.

Thought the first 30 minutes were impressive by Swansea. One touch passing all over the field, then closing down every single united player within a second, driving RVP backwards all the time. Then one moment of class from RVP taking advantage of a lapse offside trap, and then they go ahead and concede a sloppy second. Couldn't see them coming back from that so stopped watching. But the first half I saw they looked good.

One comment though... Shelvey in midfield really doesn't play the Swansea way, couple of high long balls from him when their was an overlap to his left or right with a short pass which would of cut open United. Can see why they have him to close down the opposition, but if he wants to survive and become a Swan he needs cut out the stupid long ball.

Onto Wrexham. Disappointing day again, 2-2 against Tamworth, when all the other 'main' contenders lose. Should really have made up for our shock loss to Halifax.

If i recall correctly Swansea was not so good with set pieces last year, Shelvey's size will help with that.

I captained Mata instead of Benteke...not sure about that one now.

Without suggesting that Shelvey is anywhere near as good as Makelele was, that's the role he should play - press and break up attacks, then a short pass to a creative player, and it's not as though Swansea are short of those.
