Democracy isn't slavery, democracy is freedom. True democracy, that is. Representatives, secret services, draft, taxes... those aren't. Who entitled majorities to dominate everyone? If majorities decided that some people, say blacks, say the long-haired, say homosexuals, are a nuisance to get rid off, they could "vote" and do it. "But there is the constitution, there are laws that forbids them", some can say. Repeal them all says majority and it's done. Tyranny of the majority isn't a deviance of the system, it is the system itself. If democracy is the rule of the people, why is the majority that gets the representation?

But no, seriously, I think someone pretty much answered the question. It stopped being slavery the minute the relationship between "master" and "slave" in no way resembled slavery.

I mean, I know it's a tautology and "it's not slavery because it doesn't actually resemble slavery in any sense" is somewhat an unsatisfying intellectual answer, but sometimes it works. If I hold up an apple and ask "why isn't this a pear?" then "because it's a fucking apple", while not having a certain joie de vivre of intellectually stimulating discourse, is about as good a response as one could reasonably offer.

The whole "vote is tied" bit is an intellectually clumsy attempt at arguing that having a right to vote is only a choice in an illusionary sense, as your individual vote can only impact the outcome in your favor if the vote is literally tied.

It's an attempt at countering the argument that democracy isn't slavery because democracy offers choice, by attempting to set up an argument that the choice only exists in a very statistically unlikely scenario, and that taken in the abstract, voting doesn't really offer a "choice" because unless the vote is EXACTLY tied before you vote, then your vote has no impact in the process, and you might as well not have voted or, for practical considerations, not even have had the right to at all.

It's a PROFOUNDLY shitty argument, but there it is.

Historically, the 'majority' tend to serve the interests of everyone better than any form of government that serves a specific minority. Often that's because where governance requires a majority it also requires different minority groups compromising to form a majority together, whether those groups are formed of race, religion, class, sex or whatever.

You view 'the majority' as a single body unified in their desire to make you do your homework.
