My family immigrated to the US from Italy and Hungary. Back then, they were required to adapt, and the children were given a short amount of time to learn English. (There weren't any social programs.)

The legal immigration process needs to be reformed, to provide a pathway to citizenship for non-violent immigrants who are already here, and for new immigrants in the future as well.

Violent criminals need to be cracked down upon, but instead of just sending them off to their home country on a plane, we must work more closely with law enforcement in these places, keeping in mind their sometimes limited capability. Many of the criminals we deport simply walk off the plane and either become violent criminals in their home country, or simply come back up to the states to reoffend.
