They were there, they had the resources to stop it, they literally would have barely spent any extra money or time by actually doing something, but someone assumed like you that people never have financial problems and are fully capable of paying for any service they need immediately and so a family watched the fire department do nothing and their house burn down.

Exactly. It's not like the lower class should even be educated. Back in the 19th century many members of the bourgeoisie expressed concern about the working class quickly becoming literate. Nothing good could come from that, since not everybody should be able to have access to the information hidden in books. People would just get ideas that way, resulting in a disturbance of the status quo.

I hate when people bring up statistics about ownership of things like refrigerators, phones, or TV's. Those goods, by any reasonable standard, are vastly more durable than most and really only need purchase once. It's not that great of an argument considering it rationally breaks down to "At one point in your life you could afford good things, therefore you for some reason you still can."

Plus, a refrigerator, at least a small one, is pretty much a necessity if you don't want to live off of bread and packaged food.

its not just a necessity its illegal to rent a living space that doesn't have a refrigerator, means of cooking and bathroom. so unless you want poor people to be homeless they live in a place with a fridge.
