Who are the politicians you approve of right now?

Postby Mkuki » Mon Jun 10, 2013 8:03 am

So this thread comes with a simple question. Which politicians, elected official or not, do you approve of the most? Or, dare I say it, like? Which politicians in your country? In a foreign country? There are really only two limits to who you can choose.

Limit One: The politician has to be, or recently have been, actively involved in governance, let's say, post-Cold War.
Limit Two: Governance does not mean only at the federal, or national, level. Governance does not mean political philosophy or political punditry.

As for me two of the politicians I approve of the most are Keith Ellison and Elizabeth Warren.

Well in that case Evan Bayh didn't do anything to piss me off in particular. I'd like to see him rise higher than just governor. He's perennially mentioned as a VP candidate and it has yet to happen. I wish he'd run for the big job himself.

In the sense that her cabinet featured

  • Franz Josef Jung being forced to resign over an excessive air attack and his handling of the aftermath (Lying about the scale and available information)
  • Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg being forced to resign over copy & pasting his dissertation (And in the aftermath turning out to have done a terrible job as Minister of Defence)
  • Norbert Röttgen just plain getting fired as a minister (Second time this has happened in 62 years)
  • Annette Schawan also being forced to resign over copy & pasting her dissertation (As minister for education & research, no less)
  • Christian Wulff - not strictly a member of the cabinet, but the Merkel-backed president - being forced to resign over being, well... Corrupt
  • Thomas de Maizierre may or may not become the next one for spending a couple billion Euro on failed military projects and not informing anyone about said failures
and yet she's surviving this, frankly, unprecedented* disaster without a scratch and without her or her party's popularity taking any significant hits whatsoever, re-election basically a certainty, yes. Remaining perfectly electable despite having an unbelievable knack for picking cheaters and liars as her ministers is pretty neat.

But for some reason I don't think that's what you meant with an 'Alright Job'.

* Unprecedented in terms of number of instances. There've been worse scandals in previous cabinets, but never this many.

I'm not exactly overjoyed with President Obama, but I still prefer him to the alternative.

I've started to warm up to Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC) based on her support of marriage equality and gun control.

I like my town's mayor and town council a lot.

Everything happening at the state-level of government in NC pisses me off to no end.

On the national level, Al Franken and Elizabeth Warren. On the soon to be national level (I hope), Cory Booker, though with minor reservations.

-US Senator Burnie Sanders because he's a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist and as far as I know isn't corrupt out the ass (I'm going to assume he's probably just as corrupt as the other 500 and something representatives in Washinston)...

Beyond knowing a little on a few of the national leaders, I've given up all hope to follow any of them, they all accept corporate money, are all corrupt, and all don't care what I think.

All the UK's politicians are idiots, currently, excluding perhaps those from the Green Party (my current interest) and some other small parties. If I had to choose? Ed Milliband. Not perfect, but at least he's not we're-all-in-it-together-but-some-are-more-in-it-than-others Cameron or Nick-who-hasn't-got-a-Clegg-to-stand-on, and I personally don't like Farange.

I agree (although his voice is alright, IMO). It's just I see him as the lesser evil. Unlike the others, he does sometimes speak sense... about 30% of the time. Damn politicians...
