Just about everything you've just said is a lie.

which bit is the lie?

Ohio has not abolished due process, nor decreed that criticising rape is vigilantism and blasphemy.

Lets review the viewpoints:

-The hacker is a vigilante, and vigilantism is not the answer.

-The hacker didn't really do jack shit saving the day, so why treat him like a hero?

-But it's not like he's any guiltier than the rapists, so there's that.

-Different legal parameters: federal vs state laws, adult vs minor.

Because we already know that Ohio police are pro rape and the police had no intention of prosecuting the preverts.

Nevertheless, the police should be the first call for someone holding evidence illegally obtained. Because ... well, read my first paragraph.

In the old days, vigilantes killed rapists, but the problem was that without due process, sometimes vigilantes might kill innocents. Now, the entire state of Ohio has abolished due process and decreed that criticizing rape is vigilantism and blasphemy.

Vigilantes still sometimes kill rapists. Or alleged rapists.

If you break the law, and don't intend to go to jail, you have to hide. You don't tell anyone and you don't do a CNN interview. If you break the law to make a point or in the expectation that people will applaud your actions, you must be prepared to go to jail. It's meaningless and no kind of heroism if you're not prepared to make that personal sacrifice.

This guys intentions were probably good, but what he did was just dumb.

I agree wholeheartedly, but in my experience I don't think most people believe the case against him. In the UK I think a lot of the public at the very least support what he did in regards to publishing classified documents because of the current state of mistrust towards politicians.

No they can go right ahead and do socially respectable things, but they should drop the Anonymous schtick. It's not them. Besides, if one is doing something socially respectable, there is hardly a need to hide behind a mask.
