Except the military was originally there in a defensive capacity, not an offensive one. They were sent to protect the miners, not purge the planet. Then the commander got bribed and most of them didn't blink.
I'm not saying the plot was good, but it was the execution that was at fault, not the premise.

But a person who follows a science book can have blind understanding about science even with out considering the possibility that these theories may be incorrect some day.
