I'm not sure what the law on child support is where DM lives, but if there are awards then "we had a verbal agreement that she'd abort or raise it herself" won't get him off. Even a written contract probably won't.

But does that matter? Even where there is compulsory child support awarded to custodial parents, quite often the custodial and non-custodial parents reach a mutual agreement and no government enforcement is required. DM seems like a nice sort who would help if needed.

Just a side note, I always found that a bit odd. The suspicion towards effectiveness of vasectomy. I do know there are stories of vasectomy (using ties) that spontaneously undid and a pregnancy happened, but when a vasectomy is done correctly, I don't see that happening very often enough to be a big concern.

To go even further, if it were the rights of the child being contended then refusing to divulge the identity of the father would be against the law.

Though in such cases the mother is usually in such a state that custody payments are not going to happen etc.

I can think of absolutely no reason that someone should be compelled to take care of a child against their will.
It is not the right of the child, else adoption would be illegal, etc.
In the current system it is the whim of the custody holder that can compel the other into essentially servitude. The custody holder is in most cases the female.
