That implies that all rape jkes promote rape and I don't think that's at all the case.

If their experiences are relevant then they're being situationally appropriate and there's really no issue.

So you were saying this just to hear yourself talk?

It's not. However, since pretty much no one actually tells rape jokes, electing instead to go "lol bitch u got raped", I think I can safely say that rape "jokes" do not qualify as dark humor.

So you just didn't read that? I said I don't want to hear about your horrible experiences during polite conversation, if we're talking about horrible experiences then that's absolutely situationally appropriate. If we're talking about different cuts of steak that is absolutely not situationally appropriate.

Some people do. I remember a stand up comedian who did a bit about crucifying child molesters with a nail gun that was pretty rape heavy. Of course just because stand up is a good source of jokes you can write down it's not the only source of jokes. One of the funniest moments from "Trailer Park Boys" involved one character being raped by a mountain lion that had eaten a bunch of viagra. Some characters commented it was sort of his fault for having such a long slender body and wearing a leopard print jacket.

Given that the second example does not actually qualify as a joke, and in fact is a perfect example of "lol bitch u got raped", I'm going to guess that none of the so-called jokes in your first example are actually jokes either.

Why don't you define "Joke" so we're all on the same page.

No I just wanted to let everyone to know that rape, child abduction, and murder have absolutely nothing to do with steak, it's weird you're saying otherwise.

No, I was saying that telling someone to be situationally appropriate has nothing to do with rape culture and does not constitute silencing victims. I have no idea where the hell you got any other idea.

No I was talking about rape culture in a thread about rape culture in response to a comment about silencing victims.

I don't have time to dig through the garbage of youtube comments but I have seem someone say almost the exact same words about something that had nothing to do with rape but was also a very uncomfortable topic.

Oh yeah, it was about someone talking about how they played a song at someone's funeral and someone said something along the lines of "Please don't talk about funerals".

And neither you nor Shelby has provided statistical evidence to prove your point, so I just have to go with my gut and guess what is most likely to get responses of "Please don't talk about that." And I'm guessing it happens with rape more often than funerals.

So you want a statistic that compares the number of times someone responds "please don't talk about that" to rapes and funerals when brought up randomly? There is just no possibility that that study exists, no reason for it to exist, and no methodology by which it could be created.

There's studies on all kinds of dumb shit. It wouldn't have to be specifically about funerals to be relevant.

But I'm also not seeing how, "There's no reason for anyone to do that study" is evidence against the idea that people try to sweep rape under the rug so they can ignore it. Even though my opinion is just a guess rather than a proven fact, I don't see any reason for me to change it without some decent evidence.

I don't see any reason for your opinion to be more valid than anyone elses meaning this tangent has reached the point where no further debate can be had.
