What is your favorite type of video game genre?

Postby The Sector Union » Mon Jun 03, 2013 11:13 pm

When I first started playing video games (computer games to be exact) I kinda got jumped into the whole FPS craze and was like "OMG U CAN SEE GUNZ IN FRONT UF UR FACE!" but that got old for me quickly. The only FPS games I kinda play now was Half Life and Team Fortress 2. Portal was a First person game, but not a shooter but it was one of my timeless favorites.

However my favorite has been strategy, RTS. I tried Napoleon Total War and enjoyed it but not too much but my current RTS favorites have been Relic's Warhammer 40k : Dawn of War series as well as Company of Heroes.

My second favorite is RPG. I enjoyed Bethesda's Fallout series (I couldn't get into Interplay's turned based ones sadly). I also love love Mass Effect as another RPG. It's one of my recent favorites.

The games I kinda hate are mainly simulation. DayZ does appeal to me, but ARMA does not. I don't have any interest in games like The SIMS or Farming Stimulator 2012 or whatever.

So what kind of games do you like or just a genre in general?

Is this... a thread by Sector Union? One that's not fucked up?

Anyway, really the only video game I play nowadays is BF 3, so FPS for me. I like some strategy games, though.

EDIT:
I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT RPGs ARGH

Haven't really played video games in awhile. Last thing I played was MW3 and Skyrim. Might bring the old Xbox out for ghost but I'm not sure yet as that's a good six months away. But First person shoot my favorite

CRPGs, hands down. Thing is, I like newer games with their fancy graphics, but nothing gets my like a good 3/4 perspective story from 14 years ago.

RTS Games.

Supreme Commander, Starcraft, Command and Conquer, (Plus the rare cases of:) Nationstates, R.U.S.E. Those are the only ones I currently have. I wish I had more to play and I am currently looking for more, but I don't really know many. If someone could help me out though, that'd be great.

Also, SOME FPS Games.

Such as Halo, and when it comes out, Destiny.

Poll lacks a bit of options...

...I'm pretty sure a lot of gaming today happens to be re-runs of 80's-style arcades, only made much fashionable and available on facebook, ifarts and the like. I mean... fruit ninjas? :eyebrow:

Also, where's my roguelikes? My management games? Turn-based strategy?

Anyway, my favourites:
Management (OpenTTD)
Turn-based strategy (the Steel Panther clones, the Master of Orion series)
Simulation (been playing Silent Hunter III a lot lately, maybe I'll buy SH5 if I can find it used)
MMORPGs: hey, there's almost no available MUD over there.
Roguelikes (quite an ADOM fan here).

It's a tie between RPGs and RTSs for me -- hmm, TBS-RPG hybrids like the Final Fantasy Tactics series included. :D (Oh, and I dig puzzle games too, but only if they've TCG and story-driven elements mixed in, like Tower of Saviors or something.)
What if things went differently? What if the events of the next 100 years after the Revolution were altered beyond recognition, giving birth not to a half-dead mess, but to an altogether different entity?

Welcome to Perlas-ng-Silangan. This is how history should have unfolded. This is our story.

Racing simulators.

I don't really give a shit what genre it is as long as it's a good game. I don't restrict myself to stupid genre restrictions in anything.

You, my friend, have good taste in games.

RPGs are my favorite, with Morrowind and Fallout 3 topping the charts, with Skyrim and New Vegas close behind, and KotOR somewhere in the top ten. Rome TW is good, as an RTS it is in my second favorite genre, but my favorites of that type are Rise of Nations (Thrones and Patriots) and Age of Mythology (The Titans).
