Three people dying is bad, so arrest the police who are responsible and try them. Not sure why Erdogan should die though.

2015 if the AKP is voted out, which is unlikely if this protest goes nowhere.

So why elect a party that has proven to be authoritarian and somewhat religiously conservative again, if these problems where happening since he was first in office?

Clearly, the Turkish police force are a hive mind with Erdogan commanding them like puppets to do his bidding.

Rural parts of the country tend to be more Islamist and authoritarian. Rural parts of the country also tend to have more people.

The thing is...I'm not really sure what this guy has done, except be an insensitive ass. I know for certain he doesn't deserve to die as you posted earlier. If you can give me specifics, that warrants death for him, not vague cries of "violated our privacy and rights" or "he killed three people, even though he actually didn't," then by all means.

Otherwise, I'm gonna starting to wonder if Turkey is a nation of whiners, who can't even behave democratically.

One thing I know is that he start doing regulations against the sale of alcohol. Obviously a reason to revolt and riot by itself.

Basically he has moved Turkey closer and closer towards abandoning secularism over the past 10 years and has made the country far more authoritarian.

And the threat of demolishing a park is the spark that lit the powder keg.

Sounds like America....but there are the majority party. If people did not like Ergodan or his party, they wouldnt vote for him.

Well, no, not really. Environmentalists are the only people who cared enough about the park to protest. The overreaction by the police was what caused it to inflate in scale dramatically.

Because democracy, I mean sure 46% of the people voted for the AKP, where the party with the second most votes only got 20%....but three people died! Erdogan is obviously Hitler/Stalin/Thatcher incarnate and should get the chair on the site of the old temple in Jerusalem, so that he can rise back from the dead 3 days later and lead the Global Community.

Exactly. So if you don't like him, vote him out of power next election...oh wait, but he'll probably win the election! So let's riot, hopefully start a revolution, because fuck democracy and elections, the roughly 60,000 people protesting know better than all the other people in a country of 75 million!

People react very strongly to having their rights taken away which seems to be exactly what the AKP are doing. I'm surprised you can't see beyond "turkey is a nation of whiners" and look at the core of the issue.

What "rights" have been taken away?

If I recall correctly, the AKP is trying to restrict the sale of liquor.

I understand people don't like having their rights taken away, though technically any government action can mean rights are taken away. I understand the police behaved like dicks. So here's a radically novel concept, don't vote for the guys who are screwing you!

I mean Obamacare says I have to buy health insurance, and the FDA banned energy-alcoholic drinks, you don't see me running around calling Obama a fascist, saying he should die, do you?

Maybe this stuff? Cited in the Wikipedia article. I get the gist of what they're saying, but beyond this stuff, no clue what the specifics are or how accurate they are.

The right to consume alcohol freely in places which they could before above a certain age? And If I recall correctly draconian regulations on the sale of pork and many others. The creeping of Islam is not something a nation like turkey which has strong secular principles takes lightly.

Yes, and we refer to them as "Teabaggers" and most of us believe they are quite insane.
