Ive been told Profit margins are higher in the Dallas area with Korean cattle as they are leaner and eat less, and Korean restaurants and consumers pay more for them try that.

I see no humans living there. Just food animals.

1.99/lb is ridiculous, I demand federal tax dollar to reduce them to $.45/lb.

I eat meat every day. Beef usually, bison occasionally. All other meats are what you eat when you don't have beef.

All this talk of beef makes me want to purchase another brisket flat to slow smoke on the grill.

Here's a pic of my first brisket (my camera broke between the first and second brisket, which is why there's no pics of that one), with the fat cap scored.

Raising beef puts a lot of stress on the environment. That's why it should be priced as the luxury it is. Also, don't you live in the woods or something? Deer is fucking delicious, and they raise themselves. I've started eating lots of chicken hearts. They're cheap-ish, and every heart is one chicken, so you feel like a chicken mass-murderer when you're done.

Deer is indeed delicious, and I do live in the woods. However I do not have the time to hunt. :(

States restrict deer hunting to a season. Once you're out of venison, you have to look elsewhere for meat.

They aren't necessarily demanding western food, it's the fact that large manufacturing companies are bogged down with government regulations, and move operations to countries like China, because they have little regard for the environment. Plus, the climate there isn't suitable for the large-scale agriculture that the United States has. You can't grow corn or wheat easily in China. I don't know much about beef cattle there, but I know it's not a whole lot and the land there isn't suitable enough for beef cattle. Plus, the industrial farms that are in the US now aren't going to pack up and move. It costs a lot of money to ship that many animals.

What is your opinion on "Grown meat" or cloned meat as a solution to this problem?
It would fill the shortness in supply with a cheaper, if somewhat lesser quality, beef.

In addition, it may provide a long term solution as the methodology improves to the problem and render cattle unraised except for milk and leather, with our meat grown artificially. Which I suppose may make the vegetarians happy.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

I doubt that it is ready for commercial use.

I've heard that it is. It's just noone is willing to eat it. Or at least, thats what they tell marketers. Hence, no company invests the necessary money to begin production.

As early as 2008, some scientists claimed that the technology was ready for commercial use and simply needed a company to back it

Sources disagree.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_vitro_meat

It is already being sold at a high price due to the lack of mass production and novelty value.
Whether it is commercially viable to sell to a mass market is another matter.
Marketers seem to think people will not eat it, and so no large company will invest. It is however, perfectly fit for human consumption.
