UKIP: Closet racists after all?

Well, that's the case in everyone's favourite British reactionary county, Lincolnshire.

All 16 Ukip members of Lincoln council have refused to sign an anti-racism pledge set up to ensure all county residents are treated equally and have the same rights to services.

While they don't have any real power in Lincolnshire, as the Conservatives still hold a far greater number of seats, it's a worrying sign. A quick read of the document shows that there isn't much of the 'OMG ebil multiculturizmzzz!' that Chris Pain had a problem with, and it doesn't seem to be a binding document to do anything. Most of the document is based around opposition to racism and the like, which I had presumed everyone on the Council would approve of.

Pain told the Huffington Post UK: "I have friends of all creeds and colours, there is no way you can describe this [abstention] as a racist act.

And the traditional, 'I have black friends too!' card to tie it all up.

So, NSG: is this a simple complaint about the wording of a document, or is it something more questionable? Is this a Lincolnshire-only thing, or will we see more of this in the coming weeks and months?

People are going too far on the "UKIP=racists" tbh. A lot of what's happened is they expanded really fast and didn't have time or resources to vet people, and that always ends badly.

What's wrong with being anti-racist?

That anti-racism, in practical situations, is much more than opposing racist discrimination. It is, at least where I come from, a vehicle - not an end, but a means to a completely different end. That end, of course, being the forced ideal of multiculturalism, which essentially means throwing out basic parts of your own values and culture in order to nourish values and cultures that openly detest yours. And I completely understand why this man said what he did - it's something people like Nicolas Sarkozy, Angela Merkel, and occasionally also David Cameron have talked about.

However, since he's with UKIP, and the British left and right alike feel UKIP's hot breath down their necks, they've decided to make this into yet another national scandal.

I'm voting for Wilders next year, and I'm very proud of that. He is not racist; in fact, he has more black employees than any other politician. However, he hates Islam - and that's something I respect.

Having lived in Lincolnshire, it is unquestionably backwards keeping such relics as the 11+ test with a slow moving do-nothing county council. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Lincolnshire only phenomenon.

a) your country is a union of four different countries and in personal union with other countries all around the world
b) and using as major language a mix of Saxon and French, pronounced as Dutch, and with plenty of Latin, Arabic, Italian, and Celtic influences
c) and you're notoriously fond of a beverage mostly imported from China or India
d) and your Queen is from a German family and two of her mottos are in French and another one is in Latin

supporting uniculturalism becomes a bit of an idiocy.

I'm against racism in any and all forms, but that doesn't mean we should be dropping our values either. But one thing you seem to overlook, is that a basic value of ours has always been tolerance, both religiously and morally. Of course, we should preserve our culture, but that doesn't mean we should go batshit insane racist and expel everyone who doesn't agree with our culture. That's not how it works. That's why I take a melting pot view instead of multiculturalism, because a melting pot tends to work a lot better than separate cultures existing separately from one another, because in a melting pot each and every culture is connected to the larger, more overlapping culture.
