"Fag" is a shitty insult anyway. It doesn't even sound offensive, although where i grew up the word is almost exclusively used to refer to cigarettes. There are much better insults.

... In between stories about physical fitness training and classes on U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) history, the recruit adds in this profanity-laced anecdote:
[DADT] may have been repealed, but the USMC sure hasn't adapted. We're called faggots 10-50 times a day."You think that's yelling? That's sweet faggot." "Yeah, you would think that's a pushup, faggot." etc. Any time we f--k something up, the DI's tell us "you stupid f-----g thing. That's more wrong than two boys f-----g."
If true, the instructors' use of homophobic slurs may indicate anti-gay attitudes within in the Marines -- or, at the very least, among those officers tasked with training the next generation of soldiers.
Allyson Robinson, a transgender Army veteran and West Point graduate who heads up the OutServe-Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (OutServe-SLDN), spoke with The Huffington Post about the letter's contents and said that, while disturbing, they are not surprising to her.

"We've received reports from out members of words, actions and treatment that certainly falls short of what the president and our military leaders have said the standard should be for a post-DADT military," Robinson said, adding that she had not yet heard of anything quite so "apparently blatantly, unrepentantly homophobic."
"We know from the experience of our country ... that changing laws is really the easy part of civil rights," she went on to say. "The hard part is changing the culture, and we're up against an anti-gay culture in our military that has existed and persisted and has been enforced by leaders at all levels for generations."

Now i understand the broad mentality of this website and already get what side most people are going to be on.
But I wanted to bring it up first.

But the thing you may not understand or Realize is that in Bootcamp it isn't personal and the Drill Sergeants job is to try and get under your skin an piss you off in order to see if you can Handle duress.
All this polical correct nonsense being shoved into our miltary and restricitions of how they can train the recruits just makes them soft.

Now some Sergeants probably going to lose his Job or be severely repimanded for saying something to a recruit that before would of been perfectly fine (as it's use as an insult works effectively well against Heterosexuals).

So what do you think NSG, you think the Marines are being too mean and that this recruit shouldn't be picked on by the big mean drill sergeants and deal with the stress every other recruit has to simply because he's gay?

tell them to get over it.

Sounds like the fellow just has weak skin and shouldn't be a soldier.

He gets huffy about them doing their jobs and all.

You are trained by the state, Your an investment and a costly one so Yes they train you to make you the best you can be and this whiny little jackhole cracks under boot and thinks he is only the person in history ever insulted by a drill sarge?

Meh, ironically the "homophobic" word used when i was at highschool was "Gay" like "Don't be gay" or "stop being gay" and "What a gaylord" Oh, and "Bender", but that one confused me because of Futurama.

Although there were only about 4 gay guys and 2 lesbians and 2 bisexual people in the whole school in my 7+ years there anyway, plus the guy who changed his mind every other week. Who were open about it anyway. The "homophboic" insults weren't used on them, but just as a casual friendly jab as it were.

So not only was the drill sergeant homophobic, but he was shit at what he was doing too.

Only if you dissect words and invent completely new meanings for them instead of, say, actually using the dictionary definition of things.

So, in other words; you're wrong.

I don't think people are afraid of gays.

I call bullshit. At least one person (probably a lot more) is scared of gay people. R34 of fears.
