Star Treks best Captain.

Postby Great Franconia and Verana » Sat May 25, 2013 11:56 am

So NS, who is your favourite Star Trek captain? Mine is Janeway, who I grew up with. I really like her style and flair. Kate Mulgrew did am awesome job playing her. Picard and Kirk are tied for a close second however.

ask moderation about reading serious moderation candidates TGs without telling them about it until afterwards and/or apparently refusing to confirm/deny the exact timeline of TG reading ~~~ i hope you never sent any of the recent mods or the ones that got really close anything personal!

signature edit: confirmation has been received. they will explicitly do it before and without asking. they can look at TGs basically whenever they want so please keep this in mind when nominating people for moderator or TGing good posters/anyone!

I enjoy all the star trek series, but the The Next Generation is my favorite. My vote goes with Picard.

Archer. Anyone who can defeat more technologically advanced enemies while outnumbered over and over again kind of deserves to be someone's favorite. Pity the series mostly sucked.

Picard. Calm and professional for the most part, unlike Kirk.

Sisko is the best person. Picard is the best captain. Kirk and Janeway are both borderline incompetent and Archer is middling captain and a terrible person.

Janeway.

I'd have picked Sisko, but I fucking hate mythological god characters.

Lets face it. Janeway is hard when she needs to be (Unless it's about getting her folks home, anyway), and actually ACTS a captain.

Series-Picard is, frankly, shit. He didn't show good captaining until First Contact.

Kirk is hilarious, and appropriate for his era, but it translates poorly into the modern era.

Haven't seen Archer.

So...

Janeway.

Archer repeatedly defeated more advanced opponents while outnumbered. Yes, some of that is due to terrible writing, but he is a good commander to have defeated the Xindi.

Sisko is my favourite captain, though Picard showed better captaining skills. Kirk was good for his time, but a selfish asshole douchebag. Janeway was incompetent to the point of hilarity, and Archer was OK, but his series had some shit writing.

How is Janeway incompetent? She was able to get her crew home in one tenth the time expected, and got herself and her crew out of many sticky situations. She also fought many powerful and sometime new enemies like the Borg, Viidians, Kazon etc

And unlike Picard, her first reaction to being shot wasn't 'Oh, we're sorry. Also hippies. Maybe we can talk it over?'

She actually shot back and asked questions later.

Picard was better acted than all the others. Timing, intonation, posture, eye contact, all flawless.

But the original will always be the original, and nothing can change that. One captain boldly went where no other captains had dared to venture.

Exactly, she is not afraid to flex some federation muscle. Bit I like that she did it for her crew, Kirk did it for himself and most of the time his crew second. Though he is still better than Sisko. I never really liked him or DS9 whole prophet storyline.
