Abortion is Murder

Postby Kuomintang » Thu May 16, 2013 11:12 am

Says federal authorities in Florida.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/16/john-andrew-welden-kill-girlfriend-fetus_n_3284959.html

TAMPA, Fla. -- The 28-year-old son of a Florida fertility doctor has been charged by federal authorities with tricking his girlfriend into taking a pill used to induce labor and cause an abortion, killing the fetus she was carrying.

John Andrew Welden was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on charges of product tampering and first-degree murder and faces up to life in prison if convicted of the murder charge. He's also the defendant in a lawsuit filed in state court by his ex-girlfriend, 26-year-old Remee Lee.

As a feminist who has been fighting for the pro-Choice movement, I don't believe this is "murder" at all. It wasn't a person. I still believe it was trickery and assault, but the murder charge should be dropped.

What say NSG?

Is there not a specific charge of unlawful termination of a pregnancy for this kind of thing?

Because the mother wanted to carry the baby to term her being forced to have an abortion through means of trickery makes this a legally definable murder. The mother did not want nor consent to the abortion and it was the actions of her boyfriend that caused the miscarriage and death of her unborn child - that makes it murder. This isn't about abortion rights at all.

EDIT: Also the poll is very much into the territory of biased.

I believe it is alive and you are taking a life killing it. But i am still for abortion (as long as its not late term). We kill things every day and lets face it, the only value on a human life is what we give it. Now murder is wrong and killing anything is wrong, how ever it is still going to happen. Abortions should be rare.
(this story is not about abortion its about bad doctors.)

there was no fetus. 6 weeks pregnant is an embryo.

it needs to be a crime but first degree murder is unwarranted.

In most places, I would image yes. However, trying to get him for "first degree murder" is 1) more likely to make him plead guilty for a lesser charge and 2) makes for better headlines.

The court isn't calling abortion murder, it is calling the unwanted forced termination of a pregnancy murder.

Its not murder, the child doesn't even exist and even if it did, do you remember what it was like being born of course you don't. So why on earth would the child be bothered. Argue if you want but I made abortion legal in my nation on this basis.

Abortion is murder. That is my stance.

All by itself, it is definitely murder. It's a human being - why isn't is human? It is.
What is the fetus if it's not human? It's not a table or a chair, it's also not a snake. It's human, and living.
