As many of you have likely heard, a married consultant at Cornell University in New York accidentally cc'd the entire school on a long, sexually explicit e-mail to his mistress, another married Cornell Business school employee.

the school should just publicly humiliate them for making a stupid mistake. No disciplinary action is actually necessary.

Hysterical laughter. But since there's no legal problem for the school -- say, a boss and subordinate doing naughty things -- I don't think they need to do more than these people already did to themselves.

The Cornell Business School likely teaches their students to do things such as proofread and pay attention to details. For that, the employees of the school should be doing the same thing. It's funny, of course, to all of us reading it as a third party to the ordeal, but it is also inexcusable in the eyes of the school. If I am in charge of the situation, he is suspended for the remainder of the semester, not because of the affair, but because he his misusing school e-mail. After the semester, if he was interested in coming back, we have a discussion about things and I make a determination if I will bring him back or not.

The female receives the same punishment for the same reason.
