Doesn't the song "Deck The Halls" reference Yule a few times? I think it's just fantastic how Christianity married paganism in many ways. Gave it a bit more pizazz, like putting some Laurey's Seasoning Salt on some steak before you barbecue it. Mmmmm!
Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Fa la la la laaaa, fa la la la
'Tis the season to be jolly
Fa la la la laaaa, fa la la la
Don we now our gay apparel
Fa la la, la la la, la la laaaa
Troll the ancient yuletide carol
Fa la la la laaaa, fa la la la.
Well if Wikipedia is to be trusted, only the version that omits 'yule' in favor of Christmas uses the singular 'hall' and 'troll' instead of 'toll'. Not sure why they'd say 'troll the ancient Christmas story' though, since it was probably invented before the Internet...
Them crazy Christmas carols are whatever they wanna be I guess!

While Christians whine, bitch, moan, and complain about how liberals are destroying Christmas by saying "happy holidays" [in front of a giant inflatable santa hugging a reindeer (who looks suspiciously like a young white tail deer) next to a pagan festival tree] instead of Merry Christmas
I would really like to meet some of these Christians.

Even so, Christmas no longer seems to be a Christian holiday. It's more of a day devoted to presents that people seem to celebrate regardless of religious background, in England that is. I can't speak for other countries practices in this sort of thing.
Anyways, I celebrate Christmas despite being atheist.
you shouldn't, nor should any other atheist on this forum. If you don't want stores to say Merry Christmas cuz it offends, then don't participate at all: don't get together, don't take a day off, don't be merry, don't roast chestnuts, or exchange gifts, or do anything Christmaslike. If you don't believe, don't participate in the holiday, be it somewhat secularized or not. "Christ"mas, he's right there in the name; don't like him, don't partake in the festivity.
