because they stated explicitly that if I don't conform to their customs they will turn me out of their home, and as I am a poor college student, I do not currently possess enough cash to move out.

I only have endure one more year of it though, as I am moving to South Korea in May and then Switzerland in August to attend University of Zurich (assuming that they accept my transfer credits). I get my winter combat gear ready and join my fellow atheists in attacking the north pole. So far the elves have managed to hold us back every year, but I think this year we can take 'em. Leaving early, catch 'em by surprise.

This is a War on Christmas joke in case someone totally doesn't understand.

We celebrate the secular version of the holidays. We have a tree and wreaths and gifts. We even play Christmas music. There's nothing wrong with the story of Christmas as long as you realize it's pure fairy tale.

Even so, the sentiments around Christmas are admirable. I always thought the sentiment from Luke 2:14 in the KJV, "...on earth peace, good will toward men" was worth passing on. Unfortunately in the NIV it's not nearly as poetic or appropriate. As a matter of fact it's sort of racist. The NIV translation reads "...on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests" and the "his" refers to God.

So I guess according to the NIV only men with God's favor deserve peace.

Being athiest is not so much of a problem - I have a great time with friends and family. Being a vegetarian is a much bigger problem - Christmas is one almighty meatfest here in Australia.
The world is not cyclical, not eternal or immutable, but endlessly transforms itself, and never goes back, and we can assist in that transformation.

Live on, survive, for the earth gives forth wonders. It may swallow your heart, but the wonders keep on coming. You stand before them bareheaded, shriven. What is expected of you is attention.
