I mean democracy is such a great thing, isn't it? Enslaving and later segregating blacks. Denying women the right to property and to vote. Banning minarets in Switzerland. Refusing to grant equal rights for homosexuals and lesbians? And not to mention it killed that no good prick Socrates.

So indeed, direct democracy ftw!

Wow! It was democracy that led to slavery and refusing women to vote and not racism and sexism? And homophobes aren't being bigots, they're just thinking democratically? And the Constitutional amendments outlawing slavery and giving women votes WEREN'T democratic? The more you know!

Back to the topic at hand, yeah it's an obvious troll. I say this as a guy who constantly falls for trolls too.

Democracy, very simply, is the wants of the majority, that is 51% or more. So yes, yes, it did.

Texas is even worse than California, except for Austin, when it comes to their attitudes towards LGBT people. And yet, it's quite easy to own a gun there.

But what about a race where he is opposed by 4 other candidates and he wins a majority of 39%?

It is a fact that the Texas secession movement has more energy than the California secession movement. I'm not sure how Texas' gun control/LGBT rights are relevent to it seceding.

Majority is 50% +1.
A 39% victory would be a plurality.

Not talking about an election. I'm talking about the popular wants of people, which included wanting slavery, wanting women to not have equal rights, wanting gays to not have equal rights, wanting Muslims to not have equal rights and the list goes on. Democracy is probably one of the most abhorrent forms of government.

What's with all this talk about secession? I live in the most separatist place in North America and you don't see us threatening to leave the Confederation with ragequitting every time we elect an idiot at the federal level.

Those aren't really democracies. They only allow a portion of the population to show their opinions, since the other portions are restricted by law. Besides, it is quite obvious that dictatorships generally do worse than democracies at the whole 'being a wealthy and successful nation' thing in the modern age.

Booming economy, state constitutional amendment banning gay marriage (yet there isn't persecution of gays. Look at that) and no state funding of abortion. All good.

Most of the NS stats are a good indication of this nation, except for the whole slavery and human sacrifice thing. I was hoping to do alot with a factbook and go into detail, unfortunately with how busy uni and work is keeping me, that is unlikely to occur anytime soon. Until then, NS stats can be used as a guideline for the nation but not everything is literal. Population is actually about 1.5 billion as well.
