Toenails

Postby Lunatic Goofballs » Sun Nov 08, 2009 6:39 pm

So, a conversation is brewing among the Mod hive mind regarding toenail hygiene. I'm not entirely sure how the subject came up... often the conversation waxes technical and I just grin and nod. Still, it happened and it was discovered that some people are a little squeamish with regard to toenails. Also, we have no idea how many countries deal with toenails so I felt this deserved a wider audience.

How often do you cut your toenails? DO you paint them? How do you deal with toenail hygiene? Any missing or deformed toenails? Finally, how do you react upon encountering toenails that you are reasonably sure aren't yours?

I tend to let mine grow until they start breaking off of their own accord (a few months, generally), at which point I clip them and start anew. The same goes for my fingernail.

The subject of toetails was brought up because Pythagosaurus, the cute purple dino was moving furniture and commented on finding a toenail of his.

I cut them when they get too long. I can't stand them growing any length. No missing toenails, but i guess my smallest toenails are a little malformed.

It just so happens that all malformed toenails look exactly like Afghanistan.

Coincidence? :eyebrow:

How often do you cut your toenails?

Maybe once every two months or so. Really whenever I notice that they're too long.

DO you paint them?

No sir.

How do you deal with toenail hygiene?

Sometimes I pick the dirt out form under them, cut them with toenail clippers.

Any missing or deformed toenails?

No, my ex split hers in two, as far as I know its still that way, right down the middle.
Finally, how do you react upon encountering toenails that you are reasonably sure aren't yours?

Assuming that they are toenail clippings? get disgusted a little to a lot, depending on where I find them.

I have a pair of toenail clippers. On the rare occasions that I notice my toenails existing at all, I clip them. Over a trash can. They all appear quite normal so far.

I'm a very boring person. :(

I cut my toenails roughly every 4 weeks, I don't do the best job but I do manage to keep them from getting ingrown. I wash my feet whenever I wash the rest of myself and that also helps to keep my toe nails healthy (no fungus or other nasty things). No, I never painted my toenails, and I happen to have all of them. When I encounter someone else's toenails I usually ask why they didn't get thrown away.

I had a while where my toenails were too long so I kept accidentally hitting my heel with the nails of my other foot and scratched it. ...And just about when the scab would heal up against I'd do it AGAIN and it this continued that way for a month or so :eyebrow:

I try to keep them shorter now.

Whenever they get uncomfortable in my shoes, or whenever I think they're too long. Whichever comes first.

DO you paint them?

Depends what I'm likely to be wearing on my feet. If it's closed-toe shoes, or I'm going to be wearing tights with open-toe shoes, there's no point. Even if I'm wearing open-toe shoes I don't bother. At the minute they're a very chipped light blue.

How do you deal with toenail hygiene?

I was my feet in the shower, so that keeps them fairly clean I should imagine. I'f I'm cutting them or painting them I'll use a nail cleaner first.

Any missing or deformed toenails?

Nope.

I rarely cut my toenails in the summer as I rarely wear shoes, and so they don't bother me. In winter, the first thing to bother my toes are snowboard boots, so those dictate when I trim.

My old roommate has a double toenail where he cut it with a lawn mower...a new nail grew, but the old one never fell off, so now it almost chisels into itself.

I have the toenails of a particularly decrepit old dinosaur, denial about my shoe size during my teens, when I resembled an awkward clown with my big feet, means I stuffed them into a size too small in general.

What's that big gardening tool that looks like a large pair of surgical scissors, the sort you snip down small trees with, that's what I require to cut my nails.

My fingernails, however, are lovely.

When they get too long, pick em off. You'd need a saw to cut them.
