Unemployment is the number of adult, non-institutionalized people (see labor force) that are unemployed AND searching for employment.
The unemployment rate, which is calculated from the separate BLS household survey, fell from 7.6 percent in March to 7.5 percent in April. Now, in past months, analysts have been quick to dismiss declines in the unemployment rate when the decline is a function of people leaving the labor force. (After all, if the labor force declines, the unemployment rate could fall even if the number of people who say they’re working stays the same.) But in fact, in April the labor force grew by more than 200,000 from March. And it is up by nearly 800,000 from a year ago. More people are looking for work and more people are finding it. The number of people in the household survey reporting themselves as being employed rose by 291,000 in April.]

we could do much better if the congressional republicans weren't working so hard to keep it from happening at all. it is sad that we are having a "lost decade" due to political nihilism.
The stimulus should have been bigger. That's what it really comes down to.

That is true. Numbers don't lie, people lie. With these job numbers too, a majority of them are in low paying jobs which though a job, is not what many people want. We are at a very slow rate of growth right now. These job numbers are not consistent though as one month it's good as the next it's bad. Plus, we have three problems right now. First is Europe, many of the countries in Europe like Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, ect, are basically either having extremely slow growth or their economy is contracting. The unemployment, especially in these countries, have high unemployment rates and out of control spending. Some of the are on the verge of economic collaspe basically. Second, Obamacare kicks in 2014. Many small businesses are prepping themselves by staying under 50 employees and hiring only part time workers just to avoid these few regulations (which by the way, there are about 20,000 pages worth). Oh, don't forget the taxes that will take affect as well for everyone. Third and final, spending is still out of control. Both sides are spending us to the point where they simply cannot stop. The United States is almost at 17 trillion in debt and we are not even paying for it. It is not a matter of blame one or something non-related, it is a matter that it is both sides fault and it's ashamed that the people keep electing the same people over and over again. It's got to stop now, or it might be too late.

No, what is wrong is that companies aren't going to pay for Obamacare requirements because it is too expensive, so what they are doing in response will be to cut their employee hours to only part time work. Less income will be going to paychecks and consumer spending will decline or stagnate. I can guarantee that the economy would be back to normal by now without the Affordable Care Act.
