The Best Enemy the US ever Fought

Postby The Weeks Clan » Thu May 02, 2013 11:50 pm

So, I dont usually make threads on General and have only made a handful over a period of time. But I do not remember seeing a thread on this.

So in your opinion, who was the best enemy the US ever fought?
Granted the United States usually wins its wars. But what enemy force in your mind was its deadliest and most successful enemy?

My opinion is the Confederate Military, I may get some hate for this but hear me out. The Confederates lacked many advantages of the Union Forces. They were heavily outnumbered, had fewer railroads which was essential to troop movements at the time. Had almost no navy. Killed more American Soldiers than any other. Won many major battles often outnumbered. Had very capable leadership. And sometimes even lacked the supplies to put shoes on its soldiers feet, but still charged into battle with their feet bleeding. And it can be argued they came very close to victory a couple times. Especially around 1863.

So, that is my vote. So, NSG what is your choice? And please explain why.

I think you mean the Lunar Reich. "Moon Nazis" is an offensive perjorative, and a poster like you should know better.

They did. And they played to their strengths. But they won almost no direct engagments. They really just outlasted us.

Which, in a war of attrition, is the point. They knew how to bleed the US from a thousand cuts until it wasn't worth it to keep fighting. That's pretty brilliant. Costly, but brilliantly executed.

Like the OP pointed out. I voted Confederate. I mean they took on the US head on and had none of the advantages. And won the first major battle. And many others. And had possibly some of the best leadership in US military history, with fewer resources to work with.

For what they had, they done very well.

so the best enemy they fought was themselves? I think that's quite notable you described that.

Not really. Even the Tet offensive wasn't intended to turn public opinion against the war. The North Vietnamese considered it a total failure until they saw the effect it had. Even then it was phyric defeat. If we hadn't pussied out and stayed the course rather than the dismal failure of Vietnimization we would have won and there would still be two Vietnams.

About US independence, well France and Spain supported you at times. Meaning Americans alone did not beat Britain which some of you like to believe.

Also I believe the best enemy you have fought is the Taliban, I mean the coalition forces have not defeated them with all the advanced technology.

I wonder what the outcome of the Americas history would be if the Native Americans had had immunity built up from all those diseases?
