It's usually not possible to move far enough away while staying within the area required for waiting to cross the street. I'm tired of having to breath in the putrid cancer causing smoke that smokers thoughtlessness release into crowds.

Then like as not it's your mind tricking you when you see a smoker. Because unless you have dozens of people packed into a very tight space, there will be plenty of room for people to move around in, and get away from any smoke.

I live in a city with 6 and a half million people. It's not a problem here.

I've never smoked in my life, I don't care for it, I find it disgusting. That said, I'm not in favor of bans in private establishments (many of those around here). This is a bit more "idgaf" as it's public land. Just step onto some private land and smoke, yea? Wait. Can you not smoke in your own lawn? If so, that's preposterous.

The fact that we're sentient bars of soap is non-negotiable.

Okay, North Bays councillors have officially gone off the deep end here.
Next, I expect people who are "creepy" will be tracked by the police 24/7, Internet will be banned because it is only home to perverts and terrorists and anybody walking with a minor must have a express written permission from social services, because "Think of the children!".

edit: got the name of the town mixed up

Then they're raping each other.

A good chunk of that can't even be done at the local level....
Also, I think you're mistaking this for America.

Banning tobacco would end this issue, it has no benefits anyway.

So, in a nut shell, this small city passed a bylaw that prohibits smoking in public areas like parks, trails, and beaches (Of which there are 3).

personally, I think a time restriction would have helped, like say, no smoking in those areas between 0700 and 2200, because smokers, (Most of which don't understand exactly what the bylaw implies) are pretty pissed off.

What are your views on this, NSG? Is it a breach of rights? Or a step in the right direction?

A complete ban on tobacco would cause more problems, thus why the compromise solution of banning smoking while allowing use of tobacco that doesn't expose others would be a better idea.

To no other subject has the slippery slope argument been better applied, than to the notion of banning things because they "have no benefits".
