I'm getting worried about NS2...

Postby Courezzia » Sun Nov 08, 2009 8:54 am

JOLT (Jinxed Old Lifeless Thickos) said they were taking it down and restructuring it. That happened a long time ago on here (2003), with my old nation, Linpada. It only took 2 months, really. This is still going. I'm worried that Jinxed Old Lifeless Thickos (JOLT) are lying as an excuse for destroying NS2 and binning it...

Yeah, Jolt has kinda binned it. It's kinda for the best, as it was turning into a contest of who could throw the most cash at Jolt, to quote Max Barry.

Has anyone ever considered creating an open source community supported and developed version that uses the current NS as an API to allow partial backwards compatibility?

(anything would be better then the trash jolt attempted to make)

I'm not sure what the need for an NS2 is, other than to split off a lot of participation from the existing Nationstates. NS1 is fine. Surely everyone here is familiar with the expression "don't fix what isn't broken?"
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Agreed, as Ive previously said about NS2, the only "improvements" that worked was a little section for History, and some fancy graphics and data...

Nothing NS1 + NSTracker + NSWiki doesnt already have...

Yeah I think current NS is great too. But it seems some people would like more.

I love NS as it is, but I do think NS2 had a few things which were nice. The history bit, and a slightly more details economics system. OMAC just fucked up in a big way. The last time anyone was ever as wrong as they were, they were stepping off a plane waving a piece of paper in the air saying "There will be peace in our time."

If someone did come up with a better (fun) version of NS2 then I'd probably play it, but I would never leave NS. It would be nice to see something like NS with actual war in the game mechanics, just to see what could be done with it.

I like NS way better than NS2. I'm too cheap to actually spend any money on online games, so NS2 was basically pointless for me.

Why is it called NS2? It isn't a sequal. I thought it was just a rip off.

2003? And note that NS2 was OMAC's baby, not JOLT's. JOLT SNAFUed things, OMAC TARFUed things. And you can stop worrying. It ain'tcoming back.

NS2 should have been a platform game where you run along picking up 'post-counts' while avoiding trolls and Moderators and if you get 3 warnings you're DEAT'd.

Something like that, but no one ever listens to my suggestions.

I'm getting worried about my cat. Six months ago, he fell over and hasn't moved since. Before collapsing, he vomited up a great quantity of what I, at the time, took to be strawberry syrup. Now there appear to be maggots moving under the cat's skin, and the other cats keep trying to nibble on him. I'm worried that my cat might be ill, or at least severely upset.

If you ever want to do an NS3, Mr Barry, come to me. I'm confident I can beat NS2

A random clip from the windows sounds folder on opening every page, a bit of Clip Art here, some Word Art there, maybe have it spin round when you open the page...

I hope my creative vision has whetted your investing appetite, Mr Barry.

It's probably dead if there's maggots taking up home in him.

Pull the electric cord from a lamp and place the two wires over where you think the cat's heart may be. Then touch the wires to the skin and see what happens.

I imagine it might work for NS2 as well.

Surely we can modify some old platform game code - how hard can it be?
