If it's what I said about judging people by their hygiene, then sure, it's not perfect, but it works more often than not. You should still try to be as considerate as possible, but honestly, it's based on experience. My safety and my ability to earn a living is more important than their right not to be judged. This isn't about lofty concepts of justice. It's about business. I'm not God picking souls to let into heaven. I'm not a therapist who's there to help people deal with their problems. I'm a merchant who's trying to sell art. I can't take the time to deal with difficult people if they are scaring away customers.

Mind you, my line between "clean" and "dirty" is low enough that many homeless people do not to set off any mental alarms. Even among homeless people, the cleaner ones are usually easier to share the sidewalk with. This isn't like, "Oh, you wore an old T-shirt! You're obviously not good enough for me to talk to you!" It's, "You look like Gollum. I don't want you hanging around and going on an hour-long tirade about the government mind control rays."

Can you still understand that on empirical data, you don't know if a person is law abiding by looking at him. Unless you take clues based on clothing (Gangsta style vs formal dressing ) and on the reputation of the community. Therefore, crossing a group of chinese, or norwegian tourists is way safter than crossing a group of blacks ghetto men.

The fact that we can't say that without taking a trial for racism doesn't make it less true.

Someone might be black and dressed a bit ghetto, but if they are friendly, polite, and not hitting on you right off the bat, then it's no reason to be afraid of them.

Actually, from my experience as a street vendor, the best way to predict who will cause trouble, if you are trying to guess just based on their looks, is their cleanliness. Their race and the style of their clothes are not as reliable. Black guys in clean hoodies are usually decent people who just happen to like that style of clothes.

On the other hand, I judge people by their nose size. The larger the nose, the more trustworthy. Hence I distrust Asians and Hispanics. And only trust White People(from Slavic countries) and Blacks. Also Jews. I trust the Jews.
