In the past, I have seen a couple of NSers confess that they used to be white nationalists, but have since learned better. Not sure if those people are still around, but I still thought this might be an interesting thread...

If you used to be racist, what was it that changed your mind?

If you've ever known anyone who gave up their racist beliefs, do you know what it was that finally convinced them?

Whenever we have race threads, it seems like people keep trying to use the same arguments, and the racists obviously don't find them very convincing. So maybe this will help us learn what we can do that would be more productive.

Actually, across Europe, it's making a rather rapid rise in popularity. Which is obvious.

If you are interested, the book Whitopia talks about a number of communities that are almost entirely white, and they were above average in... pretty much all ways. I haven't read the book, I heard that it was written to encourage multiculturalism, but the abstracts I've seen seem to indicate that the natural conclusion of the data would reject multiculturalism. Either way, it's got a listing in the back (and you can look this up online too) of the most prominent "Whitopias" in the country (USA).

Fun thing to note - NSG threads are actually open to all members. Although the OP posed a question to one specific group, no one can actively try to get some or all groups of people not to participate. People who've never had a single racist thought are as free to post their relevant thoughts and feelings as people who've never had a non-racist thought are.

In short, so long as people are respectful and on-topic, there is no reason to confine the thread exclusively to the relatively small amount of people that OP is directly addressing. Everyone's welcome. It's how NSG works.

It changed becouse i met this Iraqi/Afghan (not sure anymore guy, he was the most intergrated person i've ever saw, more intergraded then some dutch people... he spoke even our language (not Dutch)..

Actually, I'd argue that racism more generally is still "on-topic".

What's not on-topic? Asking people not to post who are otherwise staying on-topic. You know, that thing you did (also, that thing we're doing now, so I'm going to stop.)

I'm still a little bit prejudiced against African Americans (note: African Americans, not native Africans), for reasons I don't fully understand.

But I try very hard not to be.

Asian American here. You know, I subscribe to the "everyone is a person in the end" idea, yet I still have some underlying prejudice towards Black People, specifically African Americans. I know, I know, it's racist and it's a horrible thing to have but I think it is based on my experiences with many African Americans in the past. I have met wonderful African Americans (note, I have had few if any related problems with hostility or attempted altercations with African people like Nigerians), but I can't say I've had friendly experiences with most African Americans. I'll bet I'm not trying hard enough, and I try to look beyond this prejudicial instinct, but it's still here, like a dark, cruel beast hiding under my skin.

Note that I have absolutely no problem with other ethnic groups or with Nigerians, Kenyans, South Africans, and so on. I guess I can also hide behind that ol' musical number in Avenue Q:

I used to be kind of racist against African Americans in high school. I think it was only because we had like 5 black kids at our school and they were trying to all be gangsters or whatever. I then proceeded to move into the real world and met all sorts of diverse people, and I realized how asinine racist views are.

What I really, really hate is reverse discrimination, reverse racism - like affirmative action, special treatment for jews, and paternalism towards gypsies (basically they are paid to keep quiet, to not go around robbing other people).

A black guy uttering racial slurs to a white guy is committing RACISM just as a white one doing the same to a black guy is.

"Reverse Racism" implies that Whites insulting minorities are the norm, and if a minority does the same to a white, they're "reversing" the norm.

I used to be racist becsause my parents were then I gave it up because I realized that I don't find white people attractive. Most people I know who gave up being racist did so because the realized that such hatred is pointless and based on false absolute premises.
