My trouble is passing the test behind the wheel. The DMV guy scares the shit out of me and my driving starts to suck at an exponential rate as time goes by.

Other than picking my nose, I can't think of anything I've stopped doing.

I think people are like trees; they may look grown up, grand and impressive, but inside the living heart of each tree are the living rings of its early life, still there, still part of it, still distinct.

So this morning I toddled off to the local model shop and bought a 1:72 model of a Vulcan bomber with all the required paraphernalia and I've spent about 4 hours painting and glueing this afternoon. I'm still building the landing gear and cockpit so I've not got very far but it's been more fun than I remember having in quite a while, I'm covered in paint and possibly a little high from the glue fumes.

This got me thinking, what was it the denizens of NSG enjoyed doing as a child that you've stopped? Why did you stop? Have you ever gone back to something you used to love and not had it live up to the memories?

I didnt have productive hobbies as a child...I read a lot and figured out ways to build a better "mouse trap" tinkering with things. As an adult I have taken up childish things, models, comics, games. I was busy getting high, or breaking shit as a child. I wish I could have been more childish in the good way, I missed out on a lot of fun.

Its how I got my CDL, I told the tester "Look, I'm going to look nuts but i need to do this soI can ignore your presence" his response "Whatever you need to do you keep us from killing someone". Seriously give it a shot.

Some things that people would consider childish are never worth giving up. Growing up to me, is coming to the realization that you have to rely on yourself, and yourself alone, to provide the things that you need and want; it's coming to terms with the fact that you have to take responsibility for your own actions; it's about accepting that there are some things in life you just can't have. Inversely it's accepting that its good to dream, and that hope and wonder are things of power far beyond human comprehension. The only 'childish' things I gave up was trying to push the blame, and the responsibility, for my actions on the rest of the world and the 'I'm always right, everyone else is always wrong' mentality of youth.
